The Amazon Robotics (AR) Operations organization is Amazon's manufacturing arm for industrial robotics. We manufacture high-quality robotics for design centers across Amazon. It's an operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally. The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team develops manufacturing system designs to operationalize products from multiple design centers, applying design for X principles to influence product designs. AME also works within the supply base to develop supplier processes and support scale manufacturing.

This role will report to the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Lead and we are seeking a talented and motivated engineer with a proven track record of new product and process development, technical leadership, and execution.

You will be responsible for solving problems which require both technical domain expertise as well as operational acumen so solutions are effective and implications are understood. You will influence new automation designs, working closely with product design partners and developing manufacturing engineering strategies to deliver hardware at scale. The successful candidate will be capable of making wide-ranging business judgements on behalf of the organization and willing to "roll up sleeves and do what needs to get done" to consistently deliver results.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Provide design for X guidance/feedback on electromechanical designs.
  • Create manufacturing system designs for novel and complex electromechanical products.
  • Solve technical problems across a broad set of manufacturing commodities.
  • Guide best practices on manufacturing tolerances using GD&T.
  • Launch tooling with accelerated schedules. Assess project risk.
  • Review external production processes, identify risk and mitigate.
  • Qualify production processes based on dimensional data, control plans.
  • Drive internal and external PFMEA reviews.
  • Mentor team members and design engineers.
  • Actively support an foster a culture of inclusion.
  • Propose design changes that will enhance product sustainability.
  • Evaluate and approve product electrical Engineering Changes Orders (ECOs).
  • Evaluate production, supplier and field failures for root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Up to 30% travel required. First year travel likely higher, depending on successful candidate location.


  • BSME/EE or equivalent
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of experience transitioning hardware designs to volume manufacturing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Able to write clear and persuasive papers
  • Demonstrated expertise with new product development
  • Ability to operate in a highly ambiguous environment
  • Proven experience with industry standard tools for problem solving and risk management
  • Broad and deep commodity experience with one or more of the following: DC Gearmotors, Encoders, Plastics (Primarily injection molding), Printed Circuit Board Assemblies, Sensors, Cameras, Industrial Robotics


  • Advanced degree(s) in Engineering and/or Business.
  • Experience across multiple design and operations disciplines.
  • 10+ years of experience transitioning hardware designs to volume manufacturing.
  • 3+ years technical team leadership.
