We are looking for an experienced network leader to join our InterDC Capacity team in Seattle, WA. This team is responsible for designing and operating all of the network which connects Amazon's massive scale data center networks. Our data center networks provide high bandwidth and low latency solutions for aggregating server racks. Managers in this organization own supporting the hardware platforms, defining the physical topologies, routing architectures and software control systems for these networks.

The InterDC Capacity team is part of the InterDC Network Engineering Team and owns the regional network topology, planning and deployment for IP and Optical networks. We're looking for a Network Development Manager to lead a team consisting of high-quality Network Development Engineers who design, implement and operate those systems. At Amazon, we ask our managers to be strong technical leaders who can dive deep and ensure the right outcomes are delivered for our customers. You will work closely with your customers and business partners to develop a technical roadmap that ensures those outcomes are achieved. We also obsess over operational excellence and expect managers to demonstrate strong judgement. As a Network Development Manager, you and your team will have ultimate responsibility for end-to-end delivery of network systems, the improvement and automation of deployment processes.

A successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with an established background in Networking, strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment. The ideal candidate is a seasoned, mature engineering leader who is comfortable building high performing teams and developing staff. The ideal candidate prioritizes well, communicates clearly, and understands how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong team. Candidates must have a proven track record of building a culture centered on customer focus, efficient execution, high quality, rigorous testing, deep monitoring, and solid deployment practices. AWS in general, and this business in particular, operates at very large scale and on critical workloads, so a passion and discipline around operational excellence is essential. Candidates must be comfortable with ambiguity and eager to embrace ownership and accountability.

Leading teams in this type of fast-paced environment requires a high degree of autonomy and provides a wide range of opportunities to influence the productivity and morale of your teams. Attitude and work ethic is a key ingredient of success in this role: the successful candidate will be expected to wear many hats, work fast and smart, and adapt and iterate quickly. A working knowledge of, and experience with, one or more development methodologies is essential.

You will be expected to provide both technical and 'soft skill' mentoring in order to maintain a well-rounded, world-class organization. This includes project management, quality audits and coordination of training sessions with senior-level engineers as well as day-to-day oversight of the team including scheduling of a 7x12x365 operational rota.
Incident/Change Management - You will be integral to developing and improving incident and change management within the Networking space. Responsibilities include driving initiatives regarding improvements to existing tools & processes and providing feedback on new practices & procedures in order to scale with the rapid expansion of the Amazon platform and customer base.
