Amazon is investing in the growing business of online Gift Registries, and we are looking for an exceptional technical leader to help define and build the future of our products. This team started off focusing on making Wedding Registries #1 in the US, but in 2020 we expanded to all special events in our customers' lives - whether a customer is getting married or celebrating a birthday, we build software that gives them the tools to build a list of gifts to share with friends and family.

Are you a customer-obsessed manager looking for a full-stack team? As the Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading the frontend and backend development of brand new customer-facing experiences. You will have significant influence on our overall strategy by listening to our customers and partnering with business stakeholders to define features. You will lead and own all parts of the software development and deployment lifecycle, including design, development, documentation, testing, and operations.

The SDM will:
• Own development of their product end-to-end
• Provide technical direction
• Establish and execute short and long-term roadmaps for the business
• Manage a development team focused on creating the complex platforms for personalized experiences
• Drive continual improvements to the efficiency and flexibility of the business platform while keeping an extremely high bar on customer trust, performance, and availability.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
• 10+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 3-5+ years managing software development teams
• Hands-on architectural or distributed systems experience
• Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
• Experience with delivering software projects using Agile / Scrum methodologies
• A strong track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional, projects
• Track record of bringing in and growing engineering talent
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• The ideal candidate has a track record of launching projects with Java/C#, C++, Perl, and distributed computing technologies
• Experience taking a leadership role in building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience mentoring junior software engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers
• Experience influencing software engineer' best practices within your team
• Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between
• Experience working backwards from the customer and delivering innovative, simple solutions
• Master's Degree/PhD in Computer Science or related field
