GIS Manager

Description

The GIS Manager partners with retail real estate teams to create and deploy tools and technologies to support market analysis, site selection and opportunity evaluation. The candidate will be a key driver in defining real estate strategy and requirements for Amazon's physical locations. The candidate must possess strong business acumen and be energized by working with huge data sets and solving complex problems for our customers. The GIS Manager must be an effective leader and communicator in working cross functionally with Amazon internal groups such as business intelligence, transportation, operations, and finance.

The ideal candidate is a self-driven analyst who has a track record of crafting complex analyses, reporting complex technical data, and solving problems creatively. The candidate should be able to define and drive long-term processes and strategies for the evaluation and acquisition of real estate. Proven analytical thinking, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills are musts. The candidate should be an effective leader and communicator and a seasoned problem-solver.

In addition to providing strong analytical support, the candidate should be able to administer an enterprise geospatial platform and database, and should have experience in developing metadata standards and geospatial data quality standards. They should be comfortable interacting with key internal Business Intelligence Engineers (BIE), Software Development Engineers (SDE) and Data Engineers (DE). Experience with developing and maintaining GIS web applications will be important to the success of this candidate.

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Geography or related field
  • 4 years of experience as a business/finance/market analyst or a similar job function, including 3+ years of relevant experience with data mining, SQL, data visualizations, and GIS / Mapping software, specifically ArcGIS for Desktop 10.x, ArcGIS for Server, ArcSDE, FME, GDAL/OGR, Python.
  • PostgreSQL database experience or other databases such as Oracle, SQLite, SQL Server and Redshift

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in using data visualizations tools to simplify otherwise complex analysis results
  • Ability to think creatively, deal with ambiguity, and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of creative problem solving; think big, start small, grow fast
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results: self-starter and self-directed
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent skills in ASP.NET, CSS, HTML5, Javascript, Leaflet.js, Node.js and Python
  • Experience using ArcGIS for Desktop 10.x, ArcGIS for Server, ArcSDE, FME, GDAL/OGR, Python.
  • PostgreSQL database experience or other databases such as Oracle, SQLite, SQL Server and Redshift
