A career as an accountancy, finance or taxation professional can be diverse and challenging; it's not just about putting numbers into a spreadsheet. Accountancy, finance or taxation professionals use technical knowledge, skills, technology and experience to lead organizations and people to make responsible and sustainable financial decisions. They are required to act in the public interest and must therefore maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and competency; upholding ethical behavior and integrity at all times.

You will learn how to perform financial analysis, solve complex problems and represent your team in wider business projects. This role will require you to have strong numerical skills and a good attention to detail. You will be working in a fast-paced environment and working to deadlines. You will also possess strong communication skills.

As a Finance/Tax Apprentice at Amazon, you'll gain a vast range of useful experiences and skills. You will work towards the Level 7 accountancy or taxation Professional apprenticeship standard as well as certification from The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

You will build your skills over 36-month period, starting in September, which will help you develop personally and professionally. Your apprenticeship will be made up of;

• Classroom/virtual based training to cover knowledge
• On-the-job training at your Amazon base location
• Online learning
• Mentoring from our Finance, Accounting and Tax team members

Alongside extensive development of your technical skills, you will also grow your abilities in crucial complementary areas like organization, prioritization, data and problem-solving techniques, teamwork, communication, presentation skills and document writing.

As your knowledge and skills increase over the duration of the scheme you will have opportunities to be part of and lead projects, making a difference for customers. The on the job experience will help you build a portfolio of evidence towards your apprenticeship. You will be given dedicated time to focus on your studies to help you stay on track and work towards successfully completing your qualification. Once you have successfully completed your Finance Apprenticeship you will be able to apply for relevant roles across the business.

You will attend a number of workshops across the duration of the apprenticeship, workshops may be a mix of face to face and online delivery by a training provider. You will also attend internal trainings to support you in developing Amazon related skills and knowledge. Depending on the scheme and location of the training provider you may be required to travel and stay overnight (costs will be supported by Amazon).

Key job responsibilities
You will be combining working in your assigned team as a Finance Apprentice whilst continuing your studies to achieve your qualification. As a working student your focus is to complete your studies in your 20% off the job time by learning and developing your skills, knowledge and behaviors to work towards successful graduation. You will be set objectives and goals by your training provider and manager to support your studies.
While your day-to-day responsibilities will vary based on your team, you'll make a meaningful contribution to our business from the beginning. Examples of your day to day activities you would be expected to deliver on include:
  • Helping automate month end close activities
  • Taking part in the financial statement process, including liaising with our external auditors
  • Preparing detailed financial analysis and sharing your conclusions with senior members of the team
  • Representing your team on new business launches and gathering the accounting, finance or tax requirements
About the team
Amazon is the perfect place to start your career as a finance apprentice; where you will be based in one of our Finance, Accounting or Tax teams working across a number of tech and non-tech teams in Amazon working with teams where they help deliver big or small finance and accounting related projects successfully.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

What are we looking for?

Candidates should be 18 years or over before the start date and have the right to live and work in England

For the apprenticeship program we prioritize applicants eligible to government funding for their apprenticeship and for this you need to:
  • Have lived in the UK or in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 years
  • Be a resident of the UK for the entire duration of the program
  • Not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending August 2023 or later
  • Have 5 x GCSEs at grade A* - C (4-9) or above (or equivalent) including Maths (minimum grade B) and English (minimum grade C)
  • You'll also need to have 112 UCAS points which is equivalent to 3 A Levels at B, B and C.
Please note, you will be required to evidence your qualifications. If you have gained qualifications outside of the UK you will be required to evidence that they are equivalent.

Note: This Apprenticeship assumes the candidate has some or little knowledge/ experience of the occupation, and is NOT suitable for candidates who already have a similar or higher-level qualification in the same or similar subject of the apprenticeship. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These will be a plus for your career at Amazon, but are not necessary to enter the program:

• You are able to operate in a fast paced environment
• You are able to demonstrate drive and a passion for learning

Your recruitment process will start with your online application. You'll be asked to upload your CV, answer some questions that will help us to ensure your eligible for the programme and finally you'll complete a short online assessment.

To get to know you beyond your CV, the second stage of the process will be our online evaluations. You'll complete 3 video questions to tell us more about you, your motivations and any transferrable skills you have. If you're applying for a technology based apprenticeship you may also be asked to complete a short technical/coding test.

As a last step, we will invite successful candidates to an assessment center where you'll get the chance to meet the recruitment team and the hiring teams that align to the programme you have applied for. As part of the assessment centre, you may be expected to take part in a group exercise, a presentation, 1 to 1 interviews and other tasks relating to your chosen programme. After you've attended the assessment center, the recruitment team will be in contact to confirm the outcome of your application.
