Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by our Just Walk Out Technology, which automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. The Team:
In Amazon Go Embedded software team, we create firmware for IOT-based sensor monitoring platform that push the limits of IOT technology in terms of capacity, performance, security and availability. We develop both wired and wireless sensor and device solutions for physical retail, and are innovating in terms of high-density device deployments in this space. This role has interactions with cross functional teams including hardware, firmware and software, AWS IOT, security, cloud services, operations, etc and provide an excellent opportunity to gain experience and influence design, development and deployment of IOT devices at scale in Go stores.
The Role:
Embedded systems team provides Firmware for many of the sensors and hardware in our Go stores. We are looking for an experienced SW quality assurance manager to build and shape a new test team with the goal of streamlining black box and white box testing for various HW/FW releases. This individual is expected be able to dive deep technically, look around corners, anticipate potential design gaps and build effective and efficient quality assurance test campaigns. We also expect this individual to be a hands-on leader who can mentor and grow a motivated, driven and talented embedded systems QA team. The team is expected to understand SW designs, create module and system level test plans, establish test processes and frameworks to execute these plans and then harvest and analyze these results through highly automated post processing tools.
• Recruit, manage and lead a world class team of software, firmware QA test engineers who are focused and obsessed about improving quality of software deliverables
• Work with the current firmware and system dev team hand-in-hand from design phase to system level launch of SW/FW to products in stores, creating white box and black box test campaigns.
• Work closely with cross functional teams in networking, mechanical and electrical hardware, firmware/software as well as program management teams across Seattle, Cupertino and internationally.
• Influence SW/FW design decisions through a strong test data driven approach that creates collaborative accountability for the dev teams.
• Make high judgment decisions as well as provide clear vision and detailed plan on how to achieve the goals for stress, feature, functions and performance testing.
• Lead technically deep, strategic and efficient test plan reviews as well as technical innovation within the team on test infrastructure and tools.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who should be comfortable working across disciplines at the intersection of software or firmware development, software test design and development, building test infrastructure and an effective partner to our hardware/software teams. The successful candidate would work hand-in-hand with our software development teams from early design phase all the way to software release in production hardware, creating test campaigns and quality checkpoints. This is also a system test leader who understands and is passionate about the immense value of strong software test cycle. This is a high judgment leader who can frame solutions with the long-term goals in mind, and balance short-term deliverables.
• The candidate should demonstrate strong team leadership, as well as people and program management skills. This candidate has strong industry relationships/knowledge and uses that to be resourceful and problem solve things proactively. They need to be a great recruiter and exhibit excellent judgement for talent that raises the bar. They have the maturity to understand when to be flexible and when to stand their ground.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
• 7+ years experience in the consumer or industrial electronics industry in embedded software or firmware in either development or software test capacity handling full product life cycles
• 3+ years of experience building and managing high performance QA or software system test or infrastructure engineering team
• Strong knowledge of embedded system design, developed on RTOS and/or embedded Linux platform
• Strong industry knowledge and experience working with external vendors in test equipment, infrastructures, test automation frameworks and data analysis.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; experience working with cross-functional organizations, external vendors and partners.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
• Experience in creating detailed test campaigns for embedded systems or Linux device driver or wireless software stack
• Experience in Python scripting and programing to create test automation and post processing
• Experience in Agile development methodologies
• Knowledge and understanding of Wireless Technologies (Connectivity, Wireless Sensor Networks) as well as wireless interference, congestion and link budget challenges is preferred.
• Experience of building from scratch new software test team that enables test frameworks, establishing test infrastructure, while working with cross-functional hardware/software partners.
