Data Engineer, Global Employee Relations

DESCRIPTION

Amazon's Worldwide Consumer and Operations Employee Relations (ER) team is looking for a Engineer (DE) with a demonstrated passion for building innovative new tools and processes that support the World Wide Consumer and Operations organizations across Amazon.

The DE will be a strategic partner for our Program Managers, Economists and ER professionals. This DE will build net new solutions for these partners and in yet-to-be-defined spaces in our industry. Our projects span multiple organizations and require coordination of experimentation, economic and causal analysis, forecasting, and predictive machine learning tools. You will act as the business-facing subject matter expert for storage, transformation, feature instrumentation, and privacy, while owning the responsibility of managing end-to-end execution and delivery across projects.

Core Responsibilities
• Build cool stuff with multiple tools and platforms at your disposal to best solve the business problem.
• Help drive business decisions with your technical input and be a technical leader for the team.
• Design, implement and support an analytical infrastructure from the ground up.
• Managing AWS resources including EC2, EMR, S3, Glue, Redshift, PostgresSQL etc.
• Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load from a wide variety of sources using SQL and AWS big technologies.
• Explore and learn the latest AWS technologies to provide new capabilities and increase efficiency.
• Collaborate with Scientists and Business Intelligence Engineers (BIEs) to recognize and help adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.
• Help continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers.

The Employee Relations team is responsible for the identification of defects in our employee experience across all roles in the Worldwide Consumer and Operations organization and beyond. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of industry experience in software development, engineering, business science, or related field
• Demonstrated proficiency in SQL
• modeling, ETL development, and warehousing experience
• Experience using big technologies such as Spark, Hive, Redshift, or S3.
• Experience in one or more of: R, Bash, or other scripting language
• Experience manipulating, processing, and extracting value from sets
• Knowledge of management fundamentals and storage principles

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Masters in computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or other quantitative fields.
• Deep knowledge and experience working with AWS big data technologies (Redshift, S3, EMR)
• Demonstrated strength in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing
• Proven success in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy
• Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for best practices on data engineering
• Familiarity with statistical models and data mining algorithms
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Ability to work on a diverse team or with a diverse range of coworkers

The base pay range for this position in Colorado is $ 113,000 - $160,000 a year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
