Responsibilities

  • Lead the creative development of clearly articulated and contextually appropriate concepts and campaigns by applying your high creative standards to the team's design capabilities
  • Work with the Merchandising and Marketing leaders to constantly raise the bar for quality and excellence in creative design
  • Lead and enhance the team knowledge of best design practices and trends in retail, print, graphic design and merchandising feature design
  • Engage in brand strategy planning and build, strengthen and maintain brand assets, including style and usage guides
  • Contribute to concept brainstorming and creative brief development

  • Manage the creative development of marketing assets from end-to-end for any type of campaign, platform marketing, presentation or branding initiative
  • Present and rationalize creative work to leadership and develop team members to do the same
  • Contribute to a culture that supports great creative through curiosity, exploration, technological innovation, and individual development
  • Represent Amazon Books creative needs at broader Amazon GTM (Go to Market) forums
  • Leverage data in a way that informs your design decisions

  • Maintain a clear view on design trends and retail innovation by way of attending design/retail shows and conferences, reading design blogs, and being an active participant in the Seattle and Amazon design communities

Basic Qualifications

  • An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating creative and branding across both print and digital
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in brand and physical retail design
  • The ability to create digital and/or physical mockups
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and the ability to gracefully defend your design decisions to leadership
  • Proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • An expert understanding of the trends in retail and brand visual systems
  • Bachelor's degree in design or equivalent professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-house design experience in a leading role is highly preferred
  • Experience defining or maintaining a design style guide or branding guidelines
  • Experience in recruiting creative talent
  • Experience in working with premium and global brands
