The Data Center Global Services organization is looking for a Senior Lead Cable Technician with strong leadership skills and a progressive career history in structured cabling. Our Cabling Infrastructure team is responsible for driving low voltage structured cabling across the Amazon data center platform.

Role Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Direct oversight of installation and maintenance of copper and fiber cable infrastructure
  • Report current status via ticketing system, status reports, and email
  • Manage multiple concurrent interdisciplinary projects and ability to lead or work in a team
  • Provide training for technical staff and develop standard operating procedures for network operation. Maintain accurate records and document problems and processes
  • Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain site cleanliness
  • Manage, check and coordinate all materials to be delivered to site daily
  • Ensure that the assigned projects Data Center Technicians understand all safety and badging procedures onsite and that it is conveyed to the onsite team
  • Ensure that the Data Center Technicians comply with all installation practices
  • Conducts daily meetings with team and project goals/tasks for Lead Techs
  • Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch
  • Work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperatures than standard office environmental conditions
  • Occasional work in tight and/or narrow spaces, such as under raised floors
  • Full project ownership with ability to overcome adverse conditions and manage to a successful outcome

Basic Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of cable infrastructure installation and testing
  • Ability to direct team members in installation and relocation of network equipment and cabling on a large-scale basis
  • Experience working with various networking hardware such as multiplexers, routers, and switches a plus
  • Experience managing cable test management software, such as Fluke linkware, to maintain an accurate Cabling infrastructure database
  • Experience with fault isolating and troubleshooting cabling within live networks including LAN and WAN
  • Excellent written and spoken interpersonal communication skills
  • Understanding of test equipment (Power Meter/light source, OTDR, VFL, network analyzer, Copper/Fiber cabling test equipment)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook to document track and manage projects
  • Must work well with little supervision individually and in a team environment
  • All candidates must possess a valid driver's license, their own vehicle, and will need to pass a driving record to check to operate company vehicles
  • Supervises technicians and lead technicians and provides on-the-job training when required
  • Provides regular feedback on the performance of these technicians and lead technicians
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; and participate in group lifts for 41 pounds or more
  • Must be able to direct a team effectively and efficiently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-8 years of structured cabling experience
  • Minimum of 3 years data center structured cabling infrastructure
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience leading group of technicians
  • Ability to work efficiently with high pressure tight deadline projects
  • Ability to lead and mentor team onsite to achieve goals
  • General comprehension of the various components and sub-components of data center infrastructure
  • Ability to read and understand CAD drawings
  • BICSI Certification preferred
