Business Intelligence Engineer - Maps and Location Services


Maps and location services play an important part of Amazon's offerings.

As a Business Intelligence Engineer/Data Analyst, you will be responsible for modeling complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, machine learning, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques. You will need to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to solve problems, create operational efficiencies, and deliver successfully against high organizational standards. This is a high impact role with goals that directly impacts the bottom line of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use predictive analytics and machine learning techniques to solve complex problems and drive business decisions.
  • Design experiments, test hypotheses, and build actionable models to optimize the performance of our geo-spatial algorithms
  • Solve analytical problems, and effectively communicate methodologies and results
  • Draw inferences and conclusions, and create dashboards and visualizations of processed data, identify trends, anomalies
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders such as business teams, engineering teams, and partner teams and align them with respect to your focus area

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Math/Engineering
  • 3+ years of work experience writing advanced SQL, data modeling, data mining (SQL, ETL, data warehousing) and using databases in a business environment with complex datasets
  • Knowledge with TABLEAU, Microsoft Excel to include developing charts, data manipulation, pivot tables, creating macros, and visual basic knowledge
  • Experience with Oracle, Redshift, Teradata, and other data warehouses.
  • Experience in using SQL to analyze data in a database or data warehouse and be able to use a major programming (e.g. Java/C) and/or a scripting language (Perl, Unix shell) to process data for modeling
  • Experience working with a wide range of predictive and decision models and data mining techniques, as well as tools for developing such models
  • Ability to create dashboards and reports in an actionable way to drive business change

Preferred Qualifications

  • Very strong experience with Tableau and similar visualization tools.
  • Experience building complex data models and automating data extraction from multiple sources.
  • Experience working with a wide range of predictive and decision models and data mining techniques, as well as tools for developing such models
  • Impeccable customer service with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations; a team player with a solid work ethic
  • Great organizational skills and attention to detail; you are able to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience with data extraction using SQL; ad-hoc reporting; manipulation of raw data; creation and updating of pivot tables and metrics presentations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence and effectively communicate technical information to internal and external customers who are both technical and non-technical
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues independently in a rapidly changing environment; taking initiative in ambiguous circumstances
  • Robust sense of accountability and sound personal judgment with the capacity to handle confidential information and escalate issues effectively
