Business Intelligence Engineer
The Consumer Technical Risk Reduction (TRR) team seeks to continuously reduce the risks associated with the development operations required to build and run the technical systems that are critical to delivering the best online retail customer experience in the world - without interruption. We implement mechanisms to detect and rapidly recover from shopping experience anomalies, and we drive teams to adopt practices and mechanisms for preventing incidents from occurring in the first place. The work we do influences the way that Consumer technical teams deliver results to customers. We are looking for a strong BIE to drive our new DevOps Insights program, which is oriented on identifying opportunities for improving the way that Amazon develops and operates thousands of software systems.
As the TRR BIE, you will hold a highly visible analytical role that requires interaction and partnership with leaders across Amazon's retail businesses. You will be responsible for modeling complex problems and discovering insights through the use of statistical, algorithmic, data mining, and visualization techniques. You will be a key point of contact for defining, analyzing, and explaining technical risk exposure metrics to Amazon's service owners, building leaders' trust in our systems, and identifying where better decisions can serve our customers better. You will work on all aspects of technical risk with an initial focus on identifying opportunities for automation of the development operations activities that influence the quality and availability of Amazon's internal and external services. Your work will lead directly to the formation of enterprise-wide programs that enable Amazon to safely and quickly deliver new customer features.
The successful candidate will be a person who enjoys diving deep into data analysis, discovering root causes, and designing long-term solutions. You will help customize business policies and processes while developing new metrics and functionality. Additionally, the candidate should be an effective communicator capable of independently driving issues to resolution and communicating insights to non-technical audiences. This is a highly impactful and autonomous role with goals that directly impact the bottom line of the business.
- BA/BS degree in analytical area such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or related discipline
- 3+ years of relevant experience with data mining, SQL, and statistical modeling
- Experience writing scripts (Perl and/or Python) to manipulate data
- Strong knowledge of Excel
- Master's or higher degree in analytical area such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or related discipline
- Experience with contemporary BI technologies such as Tableau
- Experience developing software in traditional programming languages (C++, Java, Ruby)
- Experience with R or other statistical software packages
- Experience with computing infrastructure metrics
- Experience working with AWS products
