AWS Database Administrator (MVP) Seattle or Herndon, VA

Description

AWS Database Services is currently looking for a talented Oracle database administrator with 5+ years of experience for its Seattle (WA) or Herndon (VA) offices. The DBA will perform administration and engineering for multiple production databases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for fast-paced complex distributed database environments supporting primarily OLTP on a UNIX/Linux platform. Successful candidates will have the ability to rapidly troubleshoot complex technical problems under pressure.

  • Test, validate and implement performance and resource optimization improvements in consultation with AWS development Teams
  • Maintain development and production environments
  • Monitor and maintain database security and database software
  • Database & Application( SQL & PL/SQL ) performance tuning
  • Backup and recovery (RMAN and traditional)
  • Root cause analysis of production-related database issues
  • On-call for production databases - daily maintenance, monitoring, problem resolution and internal customer and dev support
  • Experience managing servers in large-scale, geographically diverse environments.
  • Review, design and develop data models in conjunction with the application development teams
  • Design, develop, and implement Oracle database instances for the development and production environments

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years Database Administration experience with administering and supporting multiple Oracle databases for performance critical, highly available systems on UNIX/Linux platform
  • Minimum of 5 years data modeling experience with conducting performance tuning, backup/recovery, and scalability/capacity planning, in addition to SQL, PL/SQL, and UNIX shell scripting
  • Minimum of 7 years troubleshooting and problem-solving experience.
  • This position requires 24/7 operational support on a weekly rotation.

Applicants must possess and maintain an active Top Secret security clearance (TS) with SCI eligibility. A US Government administered polygraph examination may be required. Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access is not required to start; however, the applicant selected will be subject to a Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified national security information. Applicants with a current SSBI, SBPR, or PPR, may be eligible for crossover in accordance with ICPG 704.4.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in creating automation tools for managing relational databases (auditing, account management, backup/restore, discovery, schema deployment).
  • Detailed understanding & experience of Linux operating systems and kernels.
  • Experience in consultancy role, assisting and mentoring junior DBA staff.
  • Track record of engineering performance and availability solutions.
  • Experience with backup/restore functionality using RMAN.
  • Experience managing servers in large-scale, geographically diverse environments.
  • Excellent SQL and DB performance tuning skills.
  • Experience implementing and supporting Oracle FSFO.
  • Working knowledge of at least one compiled language (e.g., Java, C++, C#) and at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Ruby, Perl).
