Accounting Manager, Day One Insurance

This position will be based in Amazon HQ2 in Crystal City, Arlington, Virginia, and will be responsible for managing operational accounting for some of our insurance programs and the related activities for Amazon's insurance company Day One. These activities include contract review, month-end close, and statutory reporting. This position will be responsible for working with cross-department business leaders in Risk, Treasury and Finance as well as other accounting teams to ensure all sides of the transaction are considered and factored into the company's financial statements.

An ideal candidate must have a solid understanding of US GAAP and NAIC statutory insurance requirements (Property & Casualty experience required), be able to operationalize the accounting processes based on business activities, as well as communicate with all levels across the organization and coordinate with external auditors.

Job responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Manage month-end close process for insurance business, including journal entries, reconciliations, analytics, US GAAP and statutory insurance reporting
• Drive resolution on issues in a manner satisfactory to accounting, as well as business partners.
• Manage the year-end financial reporting process for Day One Insurance including the compilation of the annual STAT report, audited GAAP financial statements and other BOD materials.
• Drive process and control evaluation and documentation
• Build relationships across multiple teams within Amazon to foster a collaborative and productive working relationship.
• Supervise and coach junior staff members

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• 8-10 years of related work and management experience
• Experience with U.S. GAAP/STAT, operational insurance accounting, related processes and controls, regulatory compliance, and/or research
• Degree in accounting or related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Operational insurance industry experience with Fortune 500 companies
• Solid understanding of financial statement analysis
• Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and with key internal business partners.
• A demonstrated history of solving multiple operational and accounting challenges
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment where priorities often shift and juggling of multiple tasks is the norm
• Experience with developing and mentoring employees.
