The Design Engineer (DE) is a pre-sales technical who assists the Sales team in developing technology solutions for clients. A DE should have experience conducting presentations, creating network architecture and design documentation, generating bills of material and statements of work, fostering both client and partner manufacturer relationships. A DE should demonstrate complete technical expertise in designing and architecting networking solutions (both products and consulting services).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support Sales team in all presales related effort.
Foster local Vendor Relationship/Business Development activity.
Mentor Design Associates in technology and sales experience.
Manage Design Associates through lifecycle of delivery engagement.
Create all bills of material/network design templates/statements of work for all network hardware, software, and services related opportunities.
Give customer information to product management for customer case studies.
Adhere to SLAs to account manager for abstract/SOW/pricing creation.
B.S. or B.A. in a technical discipline required.
Technical certifications preferred
Advanced knowledge of Cisco Systems products including Nexus Product Line (7000, 5000, and 2000), Core Route/Switch, and Data Center Networking.
Advanced knowledge of storage products, including replication, backup technologies, connectivity (fiber channel, FCoE, iSCSI). EMC experience preferred.
Advanced knowledge of virtualization products, including VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix. OpenStack experience a plus.
Knowledge of core infrastructure applications, such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL, Active Directory and Sharepoint are pluses.
Knowledge with Unified Communications, Telepresence, Wireless, Unified Computing System, Juniper and Riverbed are pluses
Previous experience in a pre-sales, advisory, and/or delivery role.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports and business correspondence
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Cisco certification (CCNA/DA or CCNP/DP) required
Cisco CCIE preferred
VTSP, VSP preferred
EMC certification preferred
Other industry certifications can be accepted when relevant to high-level detailed design recommendations of network systems engineering and design.
Possess excellent organizational, communication, and technical skills will be required with an emphasis on technical documentation and writing as well as presentation experience to Director-level and above positions in the development of network architecture strategies.
Have the ability to work in an open team environment as well as a distributed sales environment.
Possess an acumen or direct knowledge of network analysis tools.
Possesses excellent listening skills.
Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
