Job Description

In this role, the Corporate Relations Senior Manager will support Allstate’s Claims organization, partnering with the Executive Vice President/Chief Claims Officer. The Claims organization is the largest employee group, 16,000 strong. The successful Senior Manager will be able to serve as a strategic business partner first, fully engaged in driving the business success of Claims and leveraging their communication expertise in doing so. They will have demonstrated strength in working in ambiguous environments and in an iterative manner. They will be a highly visual storyteller, able to translate complex strategies into visually compelling stories, messages, graphics and video.

Strategic Thinking

Create and manage a strategic communication plan and budget in order to have communications aligned to and based on the business objectives

Ensure the integration, consistency of messaging and linkage across Corporate Relations as well as other Allstate areas of responsibility

In a timely manner, create and manage a communication plan in order to deliver key messages and ensure two-way communication with the proper audiences

Provide strategic communication counsel to the client and all departments or business units in order to provide them with the knowledge and direction necessary to communicate appropriately to various audiences

Ensure integration of corporate messages into business, department and regional messages in order to ensure consistency in delivery of key messages

Develop and oversee internal and external measurement strategies. This involves developing and improving internal/external communication plans, based on key measurement findings

Reputation Management

Through an integrated positioning program, fully leverage all aspects of corporate relations to better position Allstate as an insurance and financial services leader

Engage diverse stakeholders in ongoing dialogue and enhance relationships based on common interests

Advance credibility, market position and positive reputation of corporation, especially with current and potential customers

Develop, manage and integrate a multi-faceted external positioning strategy

Proactively manage emerging and existing issues that may have an impact on overall business performance and the image of the Allstate

Teamwork / Collaboration

Leads cross-functional initiatives to achieve business results

Serves as the catalyst to drive actions, behaviors and dialogue across the enterprise

Project Management

Locates, maintains and uses resources to achieve results

Influences the work of the department to ensure all initiatives and strategies are supporting the client and company in achieving business objectives

Leadership / Development of Others

Create an environment where vision and mission are clearly defined, targets for performance are aggressive, feedback is expected and rewards and consequences are visible and measurable

Provide coaching in regard to performance and skills for continuous development of direct reports

Identify appropriate educational and training opportunities personally and for staff members — achieve desired results accordingly

Create a high performance work environment that is flexible, encourages personal accountability, teamwork and ongoing professional development

Utilize the performance management process with all employees

Manage the unit budget and all administrative duties

10-15 years insurance industry experience, including Corporate Relations/Communications experience and 5+ years managing people

Insurance/financial services business acumen preferred

Combination of both Home Office and Field experience (internal candidates)

Expert Level Education

Bachelor degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field

Master degree preferred
