Job Description


We are currently recruiting for an UNIX/LINUX Service Engineer Sr. Consultant to join our Network Operations Center. This is a support role with the following responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex and/or critical infrastructure incidents and problems. Ensure all related incidents and problems are appropriately resolved.
  • Lead efforts to analyze and resolve complex system/service incidents and balance the workload against incident priorities.
  • Escalate to NOC Consultants quickly when on ECC calls. Do not extend the incident. (NOTE: Our return to service goals are 45 minutes for Sev 1 and 2 incidents).
  • Adhere to the NOC / Enterprise and Local change policies and ensure that you subscribe to "one over shoulder" requirement, when making incident changes in production.
  • Support a production environment running approximately 4000+ virtual and physical Red Hat and Solaris servers on Oracle, Dell and HP hardware platform.
  • Support internal enterprise-wide users: troubleshooting and providing problem resolution for the operating system and hardware issues.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with internal team members, engineering teams, and field users in business offices and call centers.
  • Provide focus and rigor around high availability incidents, driving the incidents which are user impacting, high profile and/or multi-application through to resolution, while communicating the status to leadership.
  • Partner with UNIX Engineering to implement and improve technology and process to enhance NOC monitoring, Root Cause Analysis, Problem Trending, and Incident response.
  • Manage vendors' relationships and ensure that necessary escalation documentation, as it relates to vendor support.
  • Self-starter with strong problem solving skills and who has the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • At least 3+ years of RedHat, Solaris OS and Solaris Zones experience.
  • Hands-on experience with the following OS and hardware platforms environment:
  • Operating Systems: Solaris 10.x (including zones and virtual environments), HP-UX11.x
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.11
  • Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 11


  • Various Oracle/Sun hardware including their chassis and blades
  • Cisco UCS rack mounts 5108 Blade Chassis
  • HP rack mounts, HP BLC7000c Chassis and Blades
  • Dell Poweredge rack mount Hardware
  • Solaris Operating System versions 10, 11
  • Linux Red Hat RHEL 5.7 or Oracle Linux 5.6, 6.X and 7X
  • Solaris Containers/Zones
  • ZFS
  • Sun Cluster Services
  • LVM
  • VERITAS (Cluster Services, File system, Volume manager )
  • Oracle and HP Blades Hardware knowledge
  • Unified Computing Systems (UCS) hardware knowledge

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or MIS, or equivalent support experience in a large datacenter environment.
  • Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 11, HP-UX11.x
  • Knowledge of Tivoli Enterprise Portal, VMware Vsphere
