Job Description

The Mainframe Platform Strategist is responsible for researching, designing, building, testing, deploying, analyzing, and maintaining environments and hardware and software technology components to meet current and future business needs. This includes monitoring and controlling the performance and status of technology components, and providing technology component support and problem resolution.

Job Summary

The Mainframe Platform Strategist Expert oversees and reviews efforts to research, design, plan and maintain new or existing hardware and software technology components. The Strategist utilizes advanced systems, scripting and developer skills to develop methodologies to implement, integrate, and maintain new and emerging enterprise-wide systems hardware/ software technology components. The role also creates, reviews, and ensures updates are made to the configuration management plan.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and review the following activities (concerning new or existing hardware and software technology components or enhancements to existing components): research, analysis, selection, planning, and engineering.

Oversee and drive collaboration, and provide influence and authoritative advice to IT Architects, vendors, and business clients to ensure that the modified hardware and software technology components, interact appropriately, data conversion impacts are considered, and other areas of impact are addressed and meet performance requirements.

Develop methods to test, debug, support, and analyze performance, and document hardware and software technology components.

Develop methodologies to implement new and emerging hardware and software technology, perform highly complex product customization for multiple configurations, and develop implementation and verification procedures to ensure successful new and emerging enterprise-wide systems hardware/software.

Manage highly complex hardware and software technology analysis, evaluation on resource requirements necessary to maintain and/or expand service levels or tune hardware and software components for optimum performance.

Develop and lead the implementation of technical strategies and solutions to maintain and/or expand service levels or tune hardware and software components for optimum performance.

Oversee and provide direct guidance to ensure that plans integrate effectively with other aspects of the technical hardware and software.

Resolve highly complex or critical incidents involving multiple enterprise services and components.

Review, recommend, and approve major and significant changes for purposes of incident avoidance.

Create, review and update configuration management plans related to code promotion based on information systems and business requirements.

Oversee and drive effort to analyze highly complex problems and solution alternatives. Recommend best alternatives and implement upon approval.

Provide leadership and technical guidance in project management, planning, task definition, estimating, reporting, scheduling, and workflow.

Analyze variances and initiate effectiveness or efficiency improvements in the organization, standards, procedures or methods.

Develop plans to meet required service levels; coordinate capacity requirements, design data collection and reporting mechanisms for application/infrastructure health reporting.

Develop and maintain overall recovery plans; define back-up and vaulting plans; defines business and information systems recovery operating environment.

Experience

Education: College degree or equivalent work experience; 7 plus years of related experience.
