Job Description:

Mainframe Network Engineer: is the IBM and 3rd party software network technical resource for those software systems. This position incorporates some functions and responsibilities of a Network Architect and Network Specialist. The Lead consultant will handle network issues, implement network changes, fulfill network requests etc.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Primary responsibility for maintaining the VTAM & TCPIP subsystems in a z/OS 2.5 and JES2 software environment.
  • Install and/or participate with software management and installation. This would include installation and maintenance utilizing the IBM SMP/E product. It also includes migration with testing and integration.
  • Act as a liaison between other IT Infrastructure teams, application programmers and vendors to report and resolve network problems.
  • Work with other IT staff to ensure that changes do not adversely affect production operations.
  • Assists with the analysis, design, programming, and implementation of other technologies and applications that will interface with system software.
  • Analyzes requirements and recommends policies, procedures, and standards for network connections.
  • Develops and modifies technical documentation to support operations and training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including special projects.
  • Develop/maintain/monitor proper software use and security authorization policies.
  • Ability to provide 24/7/365 software support. This would include on-call support during off-hours.

Essential criteria:

  • 7+ years of experience with mainframe network software management specific to VTAM & TCPIP components and sub-system and associated software products.
  • Actively mentor and guide staff in development of mainframe implementation, testing, and maintaining of VTAM & TCPIP software and related system software skills.
  • Monitor VTAM & TCPIP and its components to make recommendations to better utilize resources for optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ability to install and customize IBM and third-party software using SMP/E or vendor specific installation.
  • Solid knowledge of mainframe JCL and utilities.
  • Expert knowledge with Disaster Recovery Best Practices, OSA Adapters, IP, VTAM & SSL Traces, AT/TLS, XCOM, IBM Connect Direct (NDM), z/OS Connect, CL Super Session
  • Must have experience using TSO, ISPF, SDSF, OMEGAMON, IPTRACE, NETSTAT & z/OSMF, RACF commands for managing digital certificates & keyrings, IP Routing, IP subnet structures, VIPA, DVIPA and hyper-sockets,
  • Working knowledge of z/OS UNIX environment

Desirable Criteria:

  • Working knowledge of z/OS, CICS, JES2, DB2, IMS, REXX, CLIST
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem solve independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using DR GDPS mirroring & associated networking requirements.

Hours of work:

  • Mon - Fri ; Normal Business Hours 8AM to 5PM Central Time, some flexibility
  • Must be willing and available for project and maintenance activities outside normal working hours, as needed
  • Flexibility to meet business needs as required

Compensation offered for this role is $82,000-$134,800 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.
