Your role in the team

As our Lead SQL Server Database Engineer, you'll help us on delivering project management, strategic direction, performance, reliability, and scalability of the organization's current MS SQL Server database environments as well as the design, construction, and population of our new technology database schemas/environments.

From a day-to-day perspective the DBA is responsible to drive efforts to implement and/or refine operational and business continuity processes such as replication, availability groups, mirroring, backups and high availability. Project assignments as assigned by Manager. Additionally, will be tasked with supporting our production and development MS SQL Server databases and ensuring their performance, availability, recovery security and utilization.

We are focused on developing our platform, so this is where you come in. Participating proactively in daily stand-up meetings, story grooming sessions, team retrospectives, suggesting and implementing improvements, collaborate with vendors and internal team in the assessment of new technologies and their operationalization. We want you to be innovative in researching emerging trends and new technologies to identify potential improvements; develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT database related spending and initiatives. You will partner with others in their organization to set and manage expectations; continually seeks opportunities to be a thought partner and increase internal business partner satisfaction and deepen relationships.

Here at Allstate, we're passionate about letting you develop your career and ss our lead expert, you will be responsible for leading a team of SQL Server DBA professionals, providing leadership in design, architecting, maintaining, securing and providing on-call support for HA database systems (On-Prem and Cloud), as well as provide leadership in creating roadmaps and future state architecture of SQL Server platform collaborating with stake holders and business partners.

So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

  • All candidates must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK
  • 5+ years of experience in MSSQL Server in an enterprise level environment managing large-scale, complex database environments supporting complex/critical applications
  • Proven experience in MS HA and DR solutions such as WSFC, Always on Availability groups, Mirroring, Log shipping
  • Strong TSQL and PowerShell or Python/Shell scripting knowledge with ability to diagnose, develop and troubleshoot scripts.
  • Lead level expertise in MSSQL database platform
  • Knowledge of virtualized infrastructure (for example VMWare, AWS, Azure)
  • Knowledge of database administration tasks such as backups, database recovery, security, high availability and Disaster Recovery architecture working with SQL 2012-2017 environments
  • Proven ability to lead a technical team


We also have some desirable criteria

  • MS Certification
  • Certified in Cloud technology (AWS/AZURE)
  • Knowledge of Oracle, MySQL or MongoDB
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework processes such as Incident, Change, Problem, Service Request Management
  • Knowledge of cloud computing architecture/design/best practices
