Job Description

Allstate is a company that is reinventing protection and retirement to improve customers' lives. As such, we need well-rounded and innovative professionals for our Executive Development Program (EDP).

Exclusively for recent MBA graduates with critical and contemporary business knowledge and skills, this 3 year program is designed to develop cross-functional enterprise leaders who will have the opportunity as general managers to drive results and cultivate a culture of collaboration, service, and winning together. Our EDP participants have an innate ability to engage and motivate others and a desire to continuously learn and share ideas. They are inquisitive and deal well with ambiguity and complexity, and have a passion for personal development.

Allstate's Executive Development Program (EDP) is designed to allow versatile, high potential individuals to grow through cross-functional experiences and multiple rotations in diverse areas of the organization over a three-year period. Each rotation lasts approximately 9-12 months in order to build in-depth business acumen, general management skills and capabilities, and a holistic understanding of the organization.

Rotational assignments include:

  • People management, project management, operations, and P&L management
  • Customized formal learning opportunities in business and leadership development
  • Mentoring relationships with senior Allstate leaders

The challenging, high-exposure EDP assignments may include rotations in the following business areas:

  • Customer Experience & Retention
  • Product Operations
  • Strategic Operations
  • Risk Management
  • Claims
  • Finance
  • Field Sales Operations
  • Technology

While most rotations will be located in Allstate's headquarters in Northbrook, IL, there will also be opportunities for assignments in regional offices across the country. Candidate mobility outside of Illinois enhances the development experience, and though highly encouraged, is not required.

In addition to the three, high exposure rotation assignments, participants will engage in the following development activities:

  • Leadership Exposure
  • Formal Mentoring
  • Formal Leader Sponsor
  • Learning Sessions
  • Cohort Activities

The Executive Development Program is designed to help prepare participants for leadership positions at Allstate. Upon completion of the program, participants will have developed leadership capabilities, skills and business acumen to use throughout their careers.

Job Qualifications

  • MBA degree completed by December 2017 or June 2018
  • GPA requirement – 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-undergraduate business experience
  • Proven leadership and excellence in professional, academic and/or extracurricular experiences
  • Diverse backgrounds and experiences are welcome, including non-insurance experience
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

These are the traits we value most in Executive Development Program participants:

  • Self-awareness and self-management; personal leadership strengths
  • Like to try new things and different approaches; innovative; highly curious
  • Ability to identify issues and risks and then pivot to action
  • Desire to grow through challenging work; lifelong learner welcoming of feedback
  • Strong, authentic interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills that drive connection with others
  • Optimistic, upbeat, motivated
  • A willingness to relocate for rotational assignments and for future opportunities
