Job Description

Allstate Insurance Company seeks a talented, self-driven, highly-collaborative Application Developer to support the Enterprise Search service of the Content Management and Search team. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

The Application Developer plays a central role in supporting Allstate's Enterprise Search service. The Application Developer role includes software design, development, customization and integration, as well as production support tasks.

Job Description

The Application Developer's core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Design, engineer, deploy and support Lucidworks Fusion and Apache Solr solutions in a shared services architecture.

• Document detailed design, functional and technical specifications in developing Lucidworks Fusion and Apache Solr solutions.

• Develop, execute, and document procedures and standards adhering to SDLC best practices including the Agile Scrum methodology.

• Troubleshoot technical issues, perform root cause analysis and take appropriate action to remediate issues.

• Participates in the discovery phase of projects to come up with high level design.

• Analyzes business needs and develops plans to implement software requirements in conjunction with product management and architects.

• Independently handles high impact, critical software/systems monitoring issues and tickets/ incidents.

• Troubleshoots business and production issues.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with building scalable, high performing and robust Java applications.
  • Minimum 2 years scripting skills in at least one of the following: Puppet, Perl, Python, Bash, or Unix Shell and willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Self-motivated, industrious person able to operate effectively and independently in a collaborative, fluid IT and business environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or closely related field.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of IT development experience.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in at least one of the following scripting languages: Puppet, Perl, Python, Bash, or Unix Shell and willingness to learn new technologies.

Nice to Have:
  • Awareness / Experience with Lucidworks Fusion and/or open source search engines like Apache Solr, Lucene, or Elasticsearch.
  • Awareness / Experience with Node JS, AngularJS, Bootstrap or other web-based frameworks.
  • Awareness / Experience with some or all of Apache, JBoss / Tomcat, or other application servers.
  • Awareness / Experience with Source Code Management Tools (e.g., GitHub).
  • Awareness / Experience with Continuous Integration and related tools (e.g., Jenkins, Artifactory Pro, SonarQube, Selenium, Jmeter, and so forth).
  • OpenText MediaBin, OpenText TeamSite experience.

Education: College degree preferred.

Major preference: Computer Science, Information Systems.
