Job Description

This position will have central engineering responsibility across the Allstate Enterprise API Gateway platform, with a strong focus on future strategy for the platform and helping our customers prepare for operating in the cloud. This exciting role sits within the API Service Gateway section of the IS (Infrastructure Services) organization, specifically within the System Engineering group.

Key Responsibilties

  • Delivery Lead/Owner for API Service Gateway team.
  • Responsible for setting future strategy for the platform via partnerships with our cloud engineering, platform and application architecture teams.
  • Ensures platform availability is maintained to the highest possible standard.
  • Works with our customers, including application architects to ensure the highest standard of service.
  • Works with Governance and Security in relation to Identity & Access Management
  • Coordinates with CA and other platform level vendors.
  • Delivery and leadership: will have accountability for multiple activities, such as employee hiring, development, performance management, recognition and succession planning
  • Builds long-term relationships within team and amongst peers by creating an environment of safety and innovation
  • Models and creates an environment of accountability for direct reports and peers
  • Executes HR-related processes and develops staff through coaching and mentoring and providing specific, timely, open, honest, and constructive performance feedback.
  • Leads employees and influences peers through change by using one's self as an example.
  • Sets and executes team strategy, including objectives, plans and policies for area of responsibility so as to develop and deliver innovative solutions and systems in support of Enterprise goals. Communicates strategy to the team so they understand their role in achieving the established goals.
  • Works closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. Makes decisions that have an impact on quality or effectiveness of business activities beyond their immediate team.
  • Analyzes long-term impact of new or anticipated strategies and contributes to Allstate business and functional strategy.


Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive and deep knowledge of one or more core API service gateway platforms such as CA API Service Gateway (Layer 7) or Apigee.
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure architecture & associated operational requirements
  • Previous experience in a team management/leadership role
  • Must be available for rotation (if not a promotion)
  • 3 years previous team manager experience
  • 5 years infrastructure experience, with a preference towards web application services.
  • Experience establishing and building teams to deliver new technology services
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Gook working knowledge of agile project delivery.
  • Experience establishing and building teams to deliver new technology services
  • Experience working with & managing SaaS / Cloud solutions
  • Good knowledge of Cloud (SaaS) security best practice
  • Demonstrable leadership ability, performing all aspects of people management including talent development and performance management
  • Experience working in large global organization &/or financial industry
