Job Description
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Accounting professional to lead and oversee core Australian accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across financial processes. This role involves managing complex reconciliations, month-end close activities, and financial reporting, while also mentoring junior staff and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Financial Operations & Control
- Lead the reconciliation of bank accounts and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items in coordination with the Treasury team.
- Monitor accounts receivable collections, including invoice preparation, reconciliation and monitoring of cash collections.
- Oversee credit card transaction processing, reconciliation, and stakeholder engagement to resolve queries and ensure policy compliance.
- Manage the end-to-end employee expense process across accounting systems, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to company policies.
- Lead the AP team to ensure timely payments, vendor communication is clear and AP issues are mitigated.
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Own the month-end close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, financial data validation, and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
- Review and analyze operating expenses across departments, ensuring proper classification and accuracy of accounting entries.
- Prepare and review general accruals, prepayments, and amortization schedules, ensuring alignment with accounting standards.
Fixed Assets & Ledger Management
- Maintain the fixed asset register, oversee capitalization and depreciation processes, and ensure accurate reporting of asset movements and valuations.
Tax
- Prepare and review month BAS, ensuring GST compliance accuracy.
- Ensure payroll taxes are paid monthly, and other indirect taxes / workcover is paid on time.
Process Improvement & Leadership
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls across accounting operations.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., FP&A, Treasury, HR, Procurement) to support business initiatives and ensure financial alignment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a mid-to-large organization.
- Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and experience with accounting systems (SAP and Blackline highly desirable).
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
