Technical Steward Lead

Novartis Alcon has an opening for an Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Lead Engineer/Manager. This position leads a group of 5-8 technical subject matter experts in the areas of electrical, mechanical, and optical process development, production support, and value engineering cost reduction. This person will be responsible for guiding the engineering of processes, fixtures, methods, tooling, and cost reduction efforts that entail a significant content of engineering (design, build, test, evaluation, IQ, OQ, PQ, and PV). The ideal candidate will have extensive electro-mechanical expertise with a thorough understanding of optics used in lasers, microscopes, and optical metrology. This position will be responsible for the establishment and continual improvement of a state-of-the-art systems engineering function, mainly concentrated in the area of electro-mechanical software controlled medical consoles, surgical lasers, and surgical ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.

This position will work closely with R&D, procurement, Technical Service, production lines, and QA to maintain current product lines and develop next generation world class manufacturing processes, systems, fixtures, and products. The ability to manage, lead, guide, critique, and correct the course of large cross-functional teams to solve complex electro-mechanical, software, and optical systems level process and issues is an important responsibility for this position. Understanding and developing system level requirements, optical system process development and having the ability to direct system designs are critical.

Minimum requirements Bachelor's or greater, preferably a Master of Science in an engineering or physics discipline is required. 10+ years of directly related experience in a systems engineering role, including understanding electro-mechanical, optical, software controlled medical ophthalmic equipment. Proven experience with new product introductions, new product process development in the manufacturing environment, support of existing products, and collaboration with QA, production, and R&D will be required. Also requires an individual who is capable of working collaboratively with multiple teams across multiple locations and providing technical and process direction and interacting with all levels of management. The ability to travel is also a requirement. Experience using Zemax optical design, MiniTab statistics, Allegro electrical design, and ProE mechanical design is a plus.
