Senior Director - Dry Eye Ocular Health (Pharma and Medical Device)

The Senior Director Dry Eye Ocular Health, plays a key leadership role, both domestically and globally, in our Vision Care Groups introduction, development, and implementation in Research and Development projects and functions.

This highly visible position will oversee new technology and its execution within the Vision Care R&D department as well as develop and implement core competencies across the franchise.

This position will be responsible for driving the overall Dry Eye and Ocular Health (DEOH) project. This includes actively exploring external technologies as well as investigating Dry Eye and Ocular Health products and their Research and Development methodologies. This position will also be responsible for the following:

• Directs a dedicated R&D team which is responsible for leading research and development activities related to Alcon's Dry Eye and Ocular Health products.
• Serves as a key knowledge resource regarding technology and the process of converting it into a tangible, usable product.

• Develops and maintains appropriate patent protection for key achievements.

• Inspires and motivates others to share their passions and to work towards their goals.

• Defines the vision of the future Dry Eye and Ocular Health technologies portfolio.

• Sets clear objectives for the team and then assess their performance.

• Anticipates key technology trends, opportunities and/or vulnerabilities and then uses that information to design and implement the execution and overall direction for Vision Care Research and Development.

• Collaborates with the Dry Eye ideas and vision team in efforts to advance their ideas into tangible products.

• Maintains strict compliance to all regulatory, quality and safety requirements.

• Manages the department budget and monitors cost controls.

• Ensures that projects are fully resourced with the appropriate staff, providing high quality results in a timely manner.

• Responsibility for establishing and leading an efficient organization dedicated to Alcon's corporate strategic objectives and new product portfolio growth.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Positive track record of successfully developing and launching new products in the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industry.

• Recognized scientific expert in the field (publications, presentations, patents), specifically in Colloidal and Surface chemistry.

• Experience as head of a research laboratory, leading an interdisciplinary group of scientists.

• Proven ability to operate and influence cross-functionally and cross-culturally.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with successful presentation capabilities.

• Ability to lead multiple complex technical efforts and to communicate (globally) effectively with a diverse team of individuals.

• Demonstrated leadership skills in matrix-organization.

• Result oriented; quality work provided even when operating under tight timelines.

• Open for innovation.

• Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Minimum requirements
•Fluent in verbal and written English communication skills.

•Bachelor's degree in a related field with 12+ years of directly related working experience.

•8+ years of demonstrated successful leadership experience.

•Experience in pharmaceuticals AND medical device is required.

•Candidates with a PhD will be given preference.

•Candidates with 15+ years of proven leadership experience with be given preference.

•Candidates with experience in Ocular Health are highly preferred.
