Principal Package Engineer - FWN

Job Description
Leads and manages multi-faceted medical device manufacturing package engineering projects from conceptualization to qualification and commercialization phases; strong focus on cost savings project management, capital project creation, development and implementation of best practices, and continuous process improvement. Manages all phases of technical projects; overseeing the project's conception, creates user and design specifications, purchases tooling, controls and tracks spending and project progress, manages vendors, ensures accurate qualification documentation, and trains QA and Production on new package designs. Conducts engineering studies and investigations, and prepares reports and progress updates for company leadership. Provides engineering guidance to other departments, mentors, including supervising, new engineers, and keeps abreast of industry trends and issues.

Follow all Alcon and government safety regulations, and promote positive safety behaviors. Review new package designs for adherence to Alcon, environmental and safety standards. Planning: Coordinate tooling availability, new design implementation, and facility testing with production to ensure engineering activities have minimized impact to production and supply chain. Technical: Equipment/package component design troubleshooting and documentation of corrections and change control activities. Act as engineering and process technical lead for key plant package component projects. Manage multiple large component design and capital projects concurrently. Large capital projects may be in excess of $5M. Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends and recommending actions. Complete financial justification and ROI calculations and work with production and procurement to complete capacity analysis and cost justification scenarios. Design and implement modifications to the existing package component designs that will improve operational and cost efficiencies. Execute process improvement plans using a variety of Quality and Continuous Process Improvement tools. Compose Functional Requirement Specifications for component designs and associated equipment, Generate and execute tooling and component qualification documents Generate and revise standard operating procedures. Analyze customer complaints and field failures. Implement corrective and preventative actions to improve package performance and manufacturing's operational efficiencies. Team: Cooperate and support coworkers to enhance overall capability of the organization. Transfer knowledge through peer-to-peer and stakeholder training. Drive for personal and professional growth for self and team. May oversee/supervise lower level engineers. Interfaces: Coordinate/support other departments to ensure smooth execution of work. Provide technical advice to other stakeholder departments, suppliers, and other engineers.
