Principal Mechanical Design Engineer II

Job Description
• This position works in a collaborative team environment developing innovative solutions for ophthalmic surgical equipment.
• In this role, you will conduct research to develop and process up scaling for new medical device products.
• Responsible for multiple concurrent design & development activities.
• Applies intermediate level principles of engineering analysis to blend technical knowledge and manufacturing practices in providing solutions to complex engineering challenges.
• Applies knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods for medical devices.
• Works with cross-functional teams including EE, SW, QA, ME, Manufacturing and Field Service.
• Develops test methods and completes testing through the entire life cycle of the product.
• Develops requirements, performance verification and validation, production transfer and related documentation.
• Generates detailed fabrication drawings, appropriate product requirements and technical file documents and lead design reviews.
• Ensures regulatory / statutory / legislative compliance for all project work.
• Hands-on in prototyping and testing opto-electro-mechanical systems and components.
• Lead medical device development activities such as prototyping and testing, pilot builds, V&V, and ramp-up to production validation.
• Support all aspects of documentation and design control through ECN, ECO, and PTC Wind-chill.
• Contribute to design, assembly, alignment, measurement, testing, analysis, and troubleshooting of opto-electro-mechanical systems.
• Support the transfer of new products to manufacturing and manufacturing development activities.

Minimum requirements
• Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc. +9 yrs; M.S. +2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs).
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English.
• 5 Years of Relevant Experience.
• Hands-on in prototyping and testing opto-electro-mechanical systems and components.
• Must have very good problem solving skills and attention to details.
• Must be a self-starter and a fast learner.
• Must work efficiently both independently and within a team.
• Must possess fundamental, theoretical and applied knowledge related to general Mechanical Engineering.

Preferred Experience:
• Expert level skills in PTC Creo.
• Expert in GD&T and tolerance analysis.
