Director Sr Legal Counsel Vision Care

Facilitate Alcon Legal's efforts to drive functional excellence through partnering with the United States Vision Care business. This role will support the U.S. Vision Care Franchise attorney, through working on commercial and business transactions across the business, including a variety of commercial and non-commercial agreements. The attorney will support the US Vision Care Franchise attorney by negotiating and drafting a variety of commercial agreements with entities including healthcare professional customers, distributors, retailers, marketing professionals, and group purchasing organizations.

The attorney will be asked to provide legal leadership on cross functional teams, identify legal issues relevant to the business, including, but not limited, to antitrust, brand protection, antitrust, and fraud and abuse issues, and privacy, give recommendations to address critical issues so that business and legal objectives are met, advise and consult with employees, managers and leadership, proactively educate the business on relevant issues, serve as the legal advisor in complex business projects, analyze complex issues and concepts in a timely fashion, and review, analyze and keep current on all federal and state legal developments affecting the medical device industry.

•Transactional experience in the life sciences sector, specifically medical devices preferred.
•Ability to review, draft, negotiate and provide counsel on various contracts relating to all aspects of the U.S. Vision Care Franchise, including, agreements with distributors, vendors, GPOs, customers or any other agreements central to the business (inclusive of day-to-day commercial arrangements and agreements).
•Partner with Alcon businesses, while identifying and mitigating risk, including but not limited to antitrust, brand protection, privacy and fraud and abuse risks. Assure that contracts are compliant with all relevant laws and all Alcon policies and procedures.
•Understand and appreciate the regulatory environment within which Alcon operates.
•Proven ability to work on multiple projects at any given time in a fast paced environment with a high attention to detail.
•Team player in a multidisciplinary, cross cultural environment, high level of flexibility and collaboration.
•Instruct, manage and supervise external law firms providing advice to Alcon to ensure that Alcon receives timely, efficient and effective legal advice and representation; and the legal fees and expenses are reasonable for the services provided (and in accordance with budgets).
•Collaborates closely with legal colleagues throughout the Global and Regional Legal functions.
•Partner with all relevant functions to issue spot and involve the correct in-house or external counsel (or compliance professionals) as appropriate.

Minimum requirements
•Bachelor of Law/Juris Doctorate
•Fluent in English
•Minimum 6 years post Bar experience required, of which a minimum of 3 years industry experience within a healthcare, pharmaceutical or medical device environment (either counseling as external counsel at top tier law firm or in-house).
•Significant experience drafting, negotiating, reviewing and counseling on commercial transactional matters required.
•Experience counseling multinational corporations and senior level management on a wide range of issues.
•Greater than 2 years' experience working with cross functional groups, including sales, marketing, compliance, regulatory affairs, medical affairs, HR, communications, etc.
•Experience within a matrixed organization preferred.
