Automation Technician - ASPEX (12-hr. Rotating Nights Shift)

Job Description

Must be willing to work a 12-hr. Rotating Night Shift Schedule (4 days on, 4 days off)

This position is an entry level engineering position with the intent of exposing college graduate engineers or tenured maintenance personnel to highly automated manufacturing equipment through a hands-on automation technician position.

To ensure compliant, accurate, and timely completion of corrective, emergency, and preventive maintenance on automation systems and equipment. Execute improvement projects and preventive maintenance on automation equipment and systems including but not limited to PLC control systems hardware and software, HMI, operating systems, vision systems, and electrical cabinets. Supports production by investigating abnormal system alarms and alerts, realigning sequences which cannot automatically recover, and identifying potential electrical and mechanical equipment issues through online logic review.

Safety/Housekeeping - Keep shop and production areas clean and free of hazards or dangerous conditions
• Perform work area and production area housekeeping
• Follow all safety regulations, and promote positive safety behaviors
• Perform safely in a manufacturing environment including identifying electrical, mechanical, thermal and chemical hazardous conditions and locating and isolating multiple energy sources.

Planning - Coordinate equipment availability with production to ensure maintenance is completed within required timeframe.
• Plan and execute project and maintenance work with minimal supervision
• Partner with production to identify windows for project and maintenance work
• Effective communication of equipment and control system operational status
• Able to estimate time required for project and maintenance activities
• Ability to be flexible in work assignments (i.e., tasks, hours, shift, days of week)
• Ability to prioritize work and respond to interruptions and urgent requests for assistance

Technical - Equipment / process control system troubleshooting and documentation of corrections and change control activities
• Provide engineering and technical support for daily production operations.
• Provide technical support for safety and quality initiatives.
• Locate and diagnoses failures through in-depth data analysis and control system logic review
• Perform troubleshooting using advanced electronic equipment, isometric and P&ID drawings, diagrams, historical data trending (OSI PI), programmable logic controllers (Allen Bradley), functional specifications, operating and component manuals, and verbal/written instructions
• Complete preventive maintenance and corrective work orders for automation equipment
• Lead and execute equipment/process improvement projects, manage small-dollar (< $50k) project budgets
• Maintain detailed maintenance documentation and correction logs
• Complete maintenance documentation at the time of maintenance completion
• Assist completion of manufacturing non-conformance investigations and technical document writing
• Estimates labor and equipment costs, prepares purchasing requisitions, and manages electrical contractors regularly
• Assist with Manufacturing Non-Conformance investigations and apply good engineering practices to reduce the risk of repeat Non-Conformances.
• Implement corrective and preventative actions to improve manufacturing's operational efficiencies and quality standing
• Assist with the revision of Standard Operating Procedures and Preventive Maintenance plans

• Assist engineering with the design and implementation of modifications to the existing manufacturing equipment that will improve the operational efficiencies
• Assist engineering with the design, installation, and validation of automated control systems for new or upgraded utilities systems, compounding processes, and filling and packaging equipment.
• Assist engineering with the execution and execution of Installation and Operational Qualifications, IOQs, and Performance Qualifications, PQs.

Interfaces - Coordinate/support other departments to ensure smooth execution of work.
• Provide technical advice to other manufacturing departments
• Transfer lower level maintenance and equipment knowledge to production operators
• Capability to interface with the Quality department concerning maintenance and change control documentation

Minimum requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
3 Years of Relevant Experience
