Designs from First Principles.

We’re looking for someone who approaches complex problems from first principles. You will create and build original products that challenge cultural stereotypes and preconceptions. That’s how Airbnb started in the first place and we intend to keep that philosophy alive in every project that we take on.

One-Size-Fits None.

Samara is not interested in one-size-fits-all solutions: every host is unique, every guest is unique, every home is unique, every city is unique. We are looking for someone who’d be curious and respectful of local cultures, traditions, materials and products.

Materials. Materials. Materials.

We’re looking for someone with curiosity and passion about materials science and advanced manufacturing processes: how things feel, how they interact, how they age, how they adapt.

  • Lead design on the project from start to finish, building a new vision for the future of Airbnb within a small team.
  • Conduct user research
  • Conduct material studies
  • Conduct human interaction and interface design studies
  • Rapidly prototype concepts and ideas
  • Prepare presentation materials
  • Produce technical drawings
  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members at every project stage

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial design
  • Experience taking projects from concept to life
  • Experience working with unconventional materials
  • 3D modeling and visualization skills
  • Digital fabrication skills
  • Formal industrial design education is preferred
  • Preferred but not required: experience in consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, or human factors research
