Head of Financial Control & Operations

Management Reporting & Responsibilities

The Head of Financial Control & Operations is a senior finance role which reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for managing financial reporting, accounting systems/processes, cash payment and collection, compliance and internal control activities, supporting new product initiatives and developing and recruiting a talented team of finance professionals.

There are 3 key areas and direct reports being:

Financial Control – responsible for accurate, timely and insightful consolidated monthly US GAAP financial reporting, accounting, financial systems and coordination with group, managing the financial audit, ensuring accounting and associated Finance-IT systems scale appropriately in line with growth and other demands of the business, reconciliations of all significant account balances

Financial Operations – management of core financial systems and processes covering trade and non-trade payments and payables, maintaining support for in house financial systems, payment support, accounts receivable collection and reconciliation from gateways & partners, reporting and reconciliation of products (ie gift cards, payments types)

Business Process & Control - responsible for supporting process owners throughout the business to design and maintain internal controls in line with business compliance needs and to maintain the quality of our processes.

The role involves interaction with the Executive Directors, Financial Planning department, other business managers and teams and also extensive interaction with external and internal auditors and Group finance in the US.  The role necessitates strong leadership, management and team-working skills, managing and contributing (as appropriate) to new business and/or expansion initiatives,

The role includes building and developing a strong finance team with clear structure, defined roles and visible measures. Implementing individual performance development plans for each team member, performing regular reviews and taking action as required.

A key component of the role is managing, monitoring and developing our processes and systems to ensure they can meet the demands of a fast paced and developing company’s needs. This includes ensuring our process are scalable, robust, with adequate controls built in to ensure accuracy and timeliness. The candidate will be a key participant in various system developments including the deployment of an ERP system. 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, finance or other relevant field. MBA or further studies an advantage
  • Deep experience with financial and accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, or other similar software
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-cultural teams at scale
  • Intimate knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards
  • Experience presenting to, and influencing senior stakeholders including C-level executives
  • Ability to take apart processes, understand drivers, and work independently to develop recommendations
  • Solid leadership and team management
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, and manage a wide variety of projects simultaneously
