The System-of-Systems Engineering (SOSE) Office provides a wide array of architectural and portfolio analysis capabilities and integrates expertise and other system analysis and design capabilities from across the Aerospace Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) to support our most enterprise focused customers' acquisition, portfolio, and cross-system architectural decisions. Within the SOSE Office, overall the person in this position will act as a senior technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or team leader. The incumbent may lead or organize interfaces between customers and Aerospace technical and management staff. The incumbent may also coordinate large-scale technical efforts across program/project lines. May mentor less experienced MTS and serve as role model.

Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering and analytical support to government customers in the area of enterprise and systems architecture and system-of-systems engineering
  • Interact directly with Aerospace program office personnel as well as government customers
  • Collaborate closely and remotely with the SOSE team in Colorado Springs, CO; Chantilly, VA;and El Segundo, CA
  • Facilitate the deployment or implementation of existing Aerospace tools and frameworks with government customers
  • Understand customer problems and issues and turn them into tasks that can be supported by Aerospace capabilities at large
  • Identify new capabilities and enhancements to current capabilities that will better support the customer base
  • Independently conduct long-range technical studies and report findings
  • Initiate studies designed to solve new technical problems and provide new technical solutions
  • Provide ongoing technical consultation and advice to management, customers, and contractors
  • Take initiative to inform management of perceived technical problems and recommend courses of action
  • Lead cross-organizational teams and organize interfaces with Aerospace program offices and/or government customers
  • Act as the organization's designated representative at technical meetings, presentations, and symposia
  • Occasional travel may be required

This position is available as an Aerospace Corporation Engineering Specialist or Senior Engineering Specialist

Qualifications

Required
  • This position requires a current TS/SCI security clearance
  • Bachelor'sdegree in science, mathematics or engineering
  • Ideally 8 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments
  • Demonstrated participation in system architecting activities
  • Demonstrated participation in broad, multidisciplinary teams involving system design, acquisition and/or operations in one or more of the following areas: satellite systems, ground systems, launch systems, spacecraft buses, and spacecraft payloads
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to change, be comfortable with ambiguity, and demonstrate initiative under pressure

Preferred
  • Prior experience with portfolio management tools and processes
  • Strong knowledge of systems-of-systems (SoS)engineering and architectingand model-based system engineering (MBSE) discipline, literature, tools, and processes
  • Prior experience with related Aerospace architecting and design capabilities (CDC,PDST, various performance, cost, and risk analysis tools, etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge of the breadth and depth of ETG's technical capabilities andcustomer base with the ability to support from remote Aerospace locations

Additional Qualifications for Senior Engineering Specialist

Required
  • Advanceddegree in science, mathematics or engineering
  • Ideally 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments
  • Demonstrated leadership in system architecting activities
  • Prior experience in a consulting role successfully delivering advice that may be controversial
  • Demonstrated leadership of broad, multidisciplinary teams involving system design, acquisition and/or operations in one or more of the following areas: satellite systems, ground systems, launch systems, spacecraft buses, and spacecraft payloads
