Responsibilities

Air Force Military Satellite Communications programs are responsible for an integrated system of satellites, terminals and control stations providing communications to aircraft, ships, mobile and fixed sites. The MILSATCOM portfolio of programs consists of existing Protected and Wideband communications systems and emerging programs across strategic, tactical and commercial satellite communications. Operating within the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Portfolio Architect, the MILSATCOM Capability Integration team is responsible for coordinating and delivering MILSATCOM capabilities to the warfighter. Aerospace's Cyber and Systems Effectiveness (C&SE) department provides mission assurance and technical leadership in the areas of cybersecurity systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, cybersecurity operations, and other specialty engineering disciplines as well as for MILSATCOM acquisitions of cryptography and key management systems. C&SE provides architecting and engineering support across the lifecycle of programs including program initiation, development, production, operations, and sustainment. In this position, the applicant will provide cybersecurity and systems engineering support focusing on tactical systems and cybersecurity operations.

The position will be filled as a Level 2: System Cybersecurity Engineer or as a Level 3: Sr. System Cybersecurity Engineer.

Key Functions

  • Coordinate the establishment of cybersecurity requirements, policies and processes across MILSATCOM programs.
  • Participate in enterprise cybersecurity operations IPTs and ensure integration with MILSATCOM programs.
  • Coordinating resolution of issues within large multi-organizational teams encompassing SMC, MILSATCOM, Air Force Headquarters, Air Force Space Command, operational Air Force units, NSA, and other Department of Defense components and agencies as required.
  • Complete or provide support for cybersecurity engineering, security risk assessment, and systems engineering tasks.
  • Assist in the assessment of cybersecurity threats and linkage to system, cyber and resiliency requirements or architectures and processes for the SATCOM mission area or programs.
  • Work closely with programs to assess and define responses to emerging cybersecurity risks, reaching out to develop small project teams across program office and ETG (Engineering & Technology Group) personnel as necessary.


Qualifications

Requirements for Level 2: System Cybersecurity Engineer
  • 8 years of technical professional experience and Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (engineering, science, mathematics, computer science) OR any Bachelor's from an accredited school and coursework/certificate in information systems security
  • Experience in information assurance, cybersecurity, and communications security practices, and pertinent directive and statutory documents
  • Experience with the application of communications security technologies, such as cryptographic systems or key management and authentication systems
  • Experience with systems engineering disciplines, including requirements engineering, verification, test, and/or risk management
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Terrestrial communications technologies, RF communications and/or network communications; Systems engineering and architecting of ground systems; Model-based systems engineering; Spacecraft communications technologies
  • Current Secret clearance and ability to obtain TOP SECRET / SCI clearance
  • Ability to travel


Requirements for Level 3: Senior System Cybersecurity Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (engineering, science, mathematics, computer science) OR any Bachelor's from an accredited school and coursework/certificate in information systems security
  • 12 years of technical professional experience (including 2 years in a significant leadership role)
  • Experience in information assurance, cybersecurity, and communications security practices, and pertinent directive and statutory documents
  • Experience with the application of communications security technologies, such as cryptographic systems or key management and authentication systems
  • Experience with systems engineering disciplines, including requirements engineering, verification, test, and/or risk management
  • Significant Experience with one or more of the following: Terrestrial communications technologies, RF communications and/or network communications; Systems engineering and architecting of ground systems; Model-based systems engineering; Spacecraft communications technologies;
  • Current Secret clearance and the ability to obtain TOP SECRET / SCI clearance
  • Ability to travel


Preferred
  • Experience in executing or engineering defensive cyber operations capabilities or toolsets
  • Experience with diverse space systems and missions
  • Experience with the development, operations, sustainment or acquisition of SATCOM systems
