Responsibilities

The Air Force Military Satellite Communications Systems Directorate (MILSATCOM) is responsible for an integrated system of satellites, terminals and control stations providing communications to aircraft, ships, mobile and fixed sites. The MILSATCOM portfolio of programs consists of existing Protected and Wideband communications systems and emerging programs across strategic, tactical and commercial satellite communications.

Aerospace's MILSATCOM Cyber and Systems Effectiveness (C&SE) department provides mission assurance and technical leadership in the areas of cybersecurity systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, and other specialty engineering disciplines as well as MILSATCOM acquisitions of cryptography and key management systems. A part of the Cross-Programs Engineering and Operations directorate, the Cyber and Crypto Engineering team provides lifecycle support to programs across the MILSATCOM portfolio including program initiation, development, production, operations and sustainment in the areas of cybersecurity engineering, program protection, cryptographic and key management system acquisition and application.

The position will be based in El Segundo, CA and can be filled as a Level 2: System Cybersecurity Engineer or as a Level 3: Sr. System Cybersecurity Engineer.

Key Functions

  • Complete or provide support for cybersecurity engineering, security risk assessment, and systems engineering tasks.
  • Assist in the assessment of cybersecurity threats and linkage to system, cyber and resiliency requirements or architectures and processes for programs.
  • Ensure appropriate use of security/cybersecurity processes and practices during development and acquisition, and provide leadership to cybersecurity IPTs.
  • Contribute to the development of work products and assessments in support of program decisions.
  • Work closely with programs to assess and define responses to emerging cybersecurity risks, reaching out to develop small project teams across program office and ETG (Engineering & Technology Group) personnel as necessary.
  • Coordinate the integration of cybersecurity products and requirements into development contracts, systems engineering documents, IPTs and processes.
  • Provide support to projects involving large multi-organizational teams encompassing SMC, MILSATCOM, Air Force Headquarters, Air Force Space Command, operational Air Force units, NSA, and other Department of Defense components and agencies as required.


Qualifications

Requirements for Level 2: System Cybersecurity Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (engineering, science, mathematics, computer science) OR any Bachelor's from an accredited school and coursework/certificate in information systems security
  • 8 years of technical experience
  • Experience in information assurance, cybersecurity and communications security practices, and pertinent directive and statutory documents
  • Experience with the application of communications security technologies, such as cryptographic systems or key management and authentication systems
  • Experience with systems engineering disciplines, including requirements engineering, verification, test, and/or risk management
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Terrestrial communications technologies, RF communications and/or network communications
    • Systems engineering and architecting of ground systems
    • Large-scale software development
    • Model-based systems engineering
    • Spacecraft communications technologies
  • Current Secret clearance
  • Ability to travel


Requirements for Level 3: Sr. System Cybersecurity Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (engineering, science, mathematics, computer science) OR any Bachelor's from an accredited school and coursework/certificate in information systems security
  • 12 years of technical experience
    • Includes 2 or more years in team leadership or management roles
  • Experience in information assurance, cybersecurity and communications security practices, and pertinent directive and statutory documents
  • Experience with the application of communications security technologies, such as cryptographic systems or key management and authentication systems
  • Experience with systems engineering disciplines, including requirements engineering, verification, test, and/or risk management
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Terrestrial communications technologies, RF communications and/or network communications
    • Systems engineering and architecting of ground systems
    • Large-scale software development
    • Model-based systems engineering
    • Spacecraft communications technologies
  • Current Secret clearance
  • Ability to travel


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in defensive or offensive cyber operations
  • Engineering experience with diverse space systems and missions
  • Experience with the development and acquisition of SATCOM systems
  • Experience with early stage DoD programs (MS-A, MS-B) including DoD program acquisition practices and documents
  • Exhibits high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with customers
  • Ability to interact well on teams to provide technical leadership and support in a multi-program, multi-agency environment with Air Force Program Office personnel, support and prime contractors
  • Highly effective communication skills, including well-developed briefing skill, the ability to speak authoritatively when appropriate and to research correct answers when necessary
  • Experience generating high quality written work products
  • Current Cybersecurity certifications (such as CISSP)
  • Current TS/SCI or eligibility to obtain an SCI clearance
