Responsibilities

Provide technical support to DOD, NRO, civil, and commercial programs in areas of performance and survivability of electronic components, subsystems, and systems in the space environment. Will serve as a resource in assessing and analyzing a range of on-orbit performance and survivability issues related to space electronics and space systems. Will employ standard electrical engineering analysis techniques and simulation tools to characterize and assess performance and survivability of electronic components for launch and space vehicle subsystems and components. Will assist military space programs in identifying and investigating anomalous behavior related to survivability. Will participate in interagency teams in addressing and resolving performance and survivability issues related to space electronics. Will support mission assurance activities related to the survivability of space systems. Will apply diverse expertise across the corporation to define integrated solutions to customer problems. Will represent the Electrical Systems Assurance Department both within and outside of Aerospace for purposes of business solicitations and information dissemination, including preparing highlights for senior management, organizing and presenting technical reviews, and reporting on activities to management. Will work independently with both internal and external customers and with technical support, as a technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or project leader.

This position can be supported from The Aerospace Corporation's Chantilly, VA or Albuquerque, NM Location

Key Functions

  • Conducts specialized technical studies and reports findings.
  • Coordinates specific technical assignments for designated discipline or organizations.
  • Provides technical advice to management, customers, and associate contractors.
  • Initiates development of advanced analytical techniques, concepts, and/or design criteria for subsystems.
  • May lead project teams within a department.
  • Supports multiple programs and/or activities and frequently acts as point-of-contact for technical activities.
  • May bring in tasks and projects beyond personal activities from internal and external sources.


Qualifications

Required
  • Degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering, physics, or another related field.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and electronic circuit and systems fundamentals.
  • At least eight years applicable experience in space vehicle and/or spacecraft electronics engineering with emphasis on space electronics survivability in a radiation environment.
  • Broad experience in space systems engineering, procurement, integration and test.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering skills and best practices to the resolution of complex problems in survivability of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide independent evaluations and application of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer interface skills, working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, results-oriented environment.
  • Current and active DoD Secret clearance. (US Citizenship Required).


Preferred
  • Eight or more yearsof increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment.
  • Experience in supporting mission assurance activities for space systems.


Required for consideration as a Senior Engineering Specialist
  • Degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering, physics, or another related field.
  • Proven leadership skills, including a history of successful project management and team leadership in electronics survivability.
  • The capability of leading and contributing to the efforts of multi-disciplinary teams while mentoring junior engineers.
  • At least twelve years applicable experience in space vehicle and/or spacecraft electronics engineering with emphasis on space electronics survivability in a radiation environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of the aerospace industry and its contractors and subcontractors.
  • Extensive experience working with space programs and resolving problems related to survivability of electrical systems.
  • In depth knowledge of electrical and electronic circuit and systems fundamentals.
  • Broad experience in space systems engineering, procurement, integration and test.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering skills and best practices to the resolution of complex problems in survivability of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide independent evaluations and application of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer interface skills, working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, results-oriented environment.
  • Current and active DoD Secret clearance. (US Citizenship Required).


Preferred for Sr. Engineering Specialist
  • Twelve or more yearsof increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment.

  • Advanced degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering, physics or another related field.
