Responsibilities

The Air Force Military Satellite Communications Systems Directorate (MILSATCOM) is responsible for an integrated system of satellites, terminals and control stations providing communications to aircraft, ships, mobile and fixed sites. The MILSATCOM portfolio of programs consists of existing Protected and Wideband communications systems and emerging programs across strategic, tactical and commercial satellite communications programs.

Aerospace's MILSATCOM Cyber and Systems Effectiveness (C&SE) department provides mission assurance and technical leadership in the areas of cybersecurity systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, and other specialty engineering disciplines as well as for MILSATCOM acquisitions of cryptography and key management systems. Core areas of focus for the Systems Effectiveness team include: Parts, Materials and Processes; reliability, maintainability, availability and dependability (RMAD); anomaly detection and resolution; survivability; manufacturing engineering; mission assurance; quality; root cause physics of failure analysis; and associated corrective actions. The group supports programs across the full lifecycle from system definition through operations and sustainment, currently supporting WGS, Milstar, AEHF, EPS, PNVC, FAB-T, Protected Anti-Jam Tactical SATCOM (PATS), EPS Recapitalization, Evolved Strategic SATCOM, and other projects as required.

In this position the applicant will provide support for production of current systems and assistance in defining the technical baseline for emerging systems. The position will be based in El Segundo, CA and can be filled as a Level 2: Specialty Engineer or as a Level 3: Sr. Specialty Engineer.

Key Functions

  • Conducting specialty engineering analysis tasks
  • Securing the use of ETG technical support
  • Provide regular coordination with program office, ETG, customer and contractor personnel Supporting teams in the conduct of risk assessment, failure analyses and corrective actions
  • Providing root cause/corrective action resolution documentation for program decision making
  • Conducting mission assurance assessments
  • Briefing Aerospace and customer management as needed


Qualifications

Required Qualifications for Level 2: Specialty Engineer (Systems Effectiveness)
  • Bachelor's degree in physical science, chemistry, mechanical engineering or related technical fields
  • 8 or more years' technical experience which includes:
    • 3 or more years experience involving manufacturing engineering or physical analytical techniques as applied to failure analysis, parts, materials, and processes.
  • Experience with space systems, missions and environmental characteristics
  • Experience with contractor/customer failure review boards (FRB) and/or parts, materials, and processes review boards (PMPCB)
  • Experience generating high quality written work products
  • Ability to support periodic travel as needed
  • Active SECRET clearance


Required Qualifications for Level 3: Sr. Specialty Engineer (Systems Effectiveness)
  • Bachelor's degree in physical science, chemistry, mechanical engineering or related technical fields
  • 12 or more years' technical experience which includes:
    • 8 or more years experience involving manufacturing engineering or physical analytical techniques as applied to failure analysis, parts, materials, and processes.
    • 2 or more years experience in a team leadership or management role
  • Experience with space systems, missions and environmental characteristics
  • Experience with contractor/customer failure review boards (FRB) and/or parts, materials, and processes review boards (PMPCB)
  • Experience generating high quality written work products
  • Ability to support periodic travel as needed
  • Active SECRET clearance


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience exhibiting a broad physical science or materials science background and application to solve technical issues for a range of DoD and/or Space programs
  • Experience with reliability, maintainability, availability and dependability analysis
  • Experience with systems engineering disciplines, including requirements engineering, verification, test, and risk management
  • Experience with MILSATCOM missions and programs
  • TOP SECRET clearance and SCI-eligibility
  • Master's Degree in a related technical discipline
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to interact well on teams to provide technical support in a multi-program, multi-agency environment with Air Force Program Office personnel, support and prime contractors
  • Highly effective communication skills, including well-developed briefing skill, the ability to speak authoritatively when appropriate and to research correct answers when necessary
