Responsibilities

Aerospace is seeking a Software Systems Engineer to join our Software Architecture and Engineering Department! This role will include full life cycle software engineering and software architecture support to National Security Space, Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and Civil and Commercial programs. Providing increasing software and system acquisition, architecting and engineering expertise for NSS and C&C customers, which contributes to 100% mission success. Develop integrated knowledge center across geographically dispersed offices while growing to meet new demands. Lead and participate in software policy, standards, research, education, and technical community activities.

The Software Systems Engineer can be located in either Chantilly, VA or El Segundo, CA.

Key Functions

  • Provide engineering support to software intensive space and ground systems.
  • Apply technical knowledge and skills across technology and information domains to anticipate and solve problems with software intensive systems. Support may include software architecture, design, implementation, and testing.
  • Lead fast-paced, diverse projects, ranging from advocating for digital engineering using model-based systems engineering approaches, to architecting using cloud technologies and microservice designs, to prototyping DevSecOps pipelines to ensure secure and timely delivery of capabilities to mission.
  • Work with various phases of program and software life-cycles (e.g., formation and evaluation of requirements, systems and software architecture, design, development), and other related areas.
  • Provide software engineering expertise at technical interchange meetings, reviews, briefings, and personal contact with Aerospace, customer, and contractor personnel.
  • Continuously add to and improve your skillset to keep pace with new and emerging technologies, methods, and approaches
  • Tasking will include full life cycle software systems engineering and software architecture support to programs of national significance within National Security Space, Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and Civil and Commercial realms.


This position can be filled as a Software Systems Engineer or a Sr. Software Systems Engineer.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for Software Systems Engineer
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline.
  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience designing, writing, testing, and fielding software
  • Coding experience using high level development language such as C/C++, Java, or Ada
  • Experience developing software using both agile and waterfall approaches to software development
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Capacity to work on multiple tasks concurrently
  • Occasional travel
  • Excellent technical written and oral communication skills
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U. S. citizenship is required to obtain a clearance.


Required Qualifications for Sr. Software Systems Engineer
  • Bachelor's or preferably advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline.
  • 8 or more years of hands-on experience designing, writing, testing, and fielding software
  • Strong coding skills using a high-level development language such as C/C++, Java, and/or Ada
  • Experience developing software using both agile and waterfall approaches to software development
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Capacity to work on multiple tasks concurrently
  • Occasional travel
  • Professional technical written and oral communication skills
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U. S. citizenship is required to obtain a clearance.


Preferred
  • Advanced degree; MS or PhD in a technical discipline
  • Current and/or active Secret security clearance
  • Experience in ground and space software engineering
  • Experience design and evaluating software architectures using one or more of the following methods: ATAM, SAAM, ARID
  • Database Architecture Development
  • Expertise/knowledge of service oriented and highly distributed architectures, cloud computing service models, and software ecosystems
  • Experience fielding scalable systems into cloud infrastructures.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery pipelines and associated technologies such as Jenkins, Gradle, GitLab, and CruiseControl.
  • Experience fielding systems using container technology such as Docker, Kubernetes, and EKS.
  • Experience with Platform-as-a-Service technology such as RedHat OpenShift, Rancher, and Pivotal CloudFoundry.
