Description

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking enthusiastic Software Systems Engineers for an opportunity in the Information Systems and Cyber Division within our Engineering and Technology Group. This position will be located at in El Segundo, California.

The qualified candidates will join the Software Systems Assurance Department, where they will develop tools and conduct analyses that support software engineering for mission-critical space systems, notably satellite ground control networks and flight software for launch vehicles, missiles, and satellites.

This position may be filled as a Member of the Technical Staff (MTS), Associate MTS, or Senior MTS.

Responsibilities

Key Functions

  • Design, implement, and maintain software for a variety of engineering applications, helping engineers solve space systems-engineering problems using graphics visualization, database interfaces, data analysis, and test automation
  • Participate in software development activities that may include stand-alone or web-based applications
  • Conduct studies and assessments of software quality, system design adequacy, and compliance with mission requirements
  • Develop innovative tools and techniques to enhance those studies and assessments
  • Training and mentorship will be provided.

Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Experience or coursework in object-oriented software programming
  • Leadership or technical responsibility in one or more software development or computer engineering projects
  • Fluency with one or more modern software programming languages
  • Fluency with standard office productivity applications (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA 3.0
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance
  • US Citizenship is required


Preferred
  • Undergraduate GPA 3.5 or higher
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Proficiency in Java, C++, or Python programming languages
  • Working knowledge of the several of the following: JavaScript, Angular, MongoDB, MySQL, Docker, Jenkins, Git, and Jira
  • Experience in software testing, verification, and validation
  • Experience with agile software development practices
  • Experience with cloud-based architectures and platforms
  • Experience with data visualization and user interfaces
  • Experience with information assurance and cyber security
  • Experience with modern data analytics (e.g. machine learning, data mining)
  • Experience with airborne vehicle systems and/or spacecraft systems
  • Participation in one or more software development or computer engineering projects in aerospace-related applications (e.g. UAVs, CubeSats, robotics)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively define goals and track progress on tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to apply initiative and creativity to solve problems
  • Demonstrated ability to cooperate as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and proactively seek guidance as needed
  • Active security clearance
  • Two or more years of progressively responsible experience in relevant roles is typical for an MTS. Less experienced candidates are typically considered for Associate MTS roles
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in relevant roles is typical for a Senior MTS
  • Time spent pursuing graduate studies in a pertinent field is typically applicable to the experience-level qualifications listed above
