Responsibilities

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Software Engineering Specialist to work with our Advanced Software Technologies group. The qualified candidate will work independently with both internal and external customers and with technical support, as a technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, and project leader. Responsibilities will include leading and organizing technical efforts and project teams, and interfacing between customers and Aerospace technical and management staff. This role will also mentor and serve as a role model for less experienced members of technical staff.

Key Functions

  • Conducts specialized technical studies and reports findings.
  • Coordinates specific technical assignments for designated discipline or organizations.
  • Provides technical advice to management, customers, and associate contractors.
  • Initiates development of advanced analytical techniques, concepts, and/or design criteria for subsystems.
  • Lead project teams within a department.
  • Supports multiple programs and/or activities and frequently acts as point-of-contact for technical activities.
  • Bring in tasks and projects beyond personal activities from internal and external sources.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • 8 or more years in software design, development and/or architecture
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field with equivalent practical experience
  • Experience in building systems using at least two different languages: Java, Scala, Python, C++ and other programming languages
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers
  • Past experience as a software development lead or team lead
  • Design of highly scalable web services and distributed systems
  • Communicate regularly with customer and management on status, risks and change control
  • Lead designs of major software components and systems
  • Aptitude to independently learn new technologies
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's, further education or experience in engineering, computer science or other technical related field
  • Background in object-oriented design and development, and fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and complexity analysis
  • Able to mentor junior members and give technical advice and direction
