Responsibilities

The Aerospace Corporation's Digital Communications Implementation Department designs, builds, evaluates, and fuses sensors of various types, including traditional PNT and electro-optical. We conduct our own research and development and in this position, you can have the opportunity to innovate in algorithm design. Join us on the leading edge of digital communications development. To be successful in this role you must have mathematical maturity and working experience with estimation and detection theory or statistical model selection. Familiarity with the concepts, models, and techniques of purely functional programming would also be beneficial. We are looking for a candidate who is curious about new and unconditional methods for algorithm design and is hands-on without fear of digging deep into the mathematical models.

To be successful in this role you must have a strong theoretical data science and preferably some signal processing experience. We are looking for a candidate that is extremely hands-on with the ability to lead small groups of engineers. Additionally, you should be eager to explore modern techniques and unconventional methods for algorithm design and problem-solving.The Aerospace Corporation's Digital Communications Implementation Department uses software define radio and FPGA technology to design digital transceivers. This role can be filled as an Aerospace Senior Member of Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist

Key Functions

  • Working in a team whose main objective is to evaluate the performance of proposed electro-optical sensor designs
  • This position requires a strong theoretical digital communication foundation.
  • Experience required in estimation and detection theory as well as a grounding in statistics.
  • Conduct specialized technical studies, lead internal research and development efforts.
  • Candidate should be eager to explore modern techniques and unconventional methods for algorithm design and problem-solving.
  • We are looking for a person who can work and lead small groups of engineers. The nature of our work requires the candidate to work on a couple of projects simultaneously. This position has a very limited proportion of systems engineering work.
  • We expect the chosen candidate to be able to be an active software developer in some of the programming languages described below.


Qualifications

Required
  • Minimum of 5 of experience since obtaining a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with tracking and fusion of data from PNT or electro-optical sensors.
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following programming languages: Python, MATLAB, and OCaml within Unix/Linux programming environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


Preferred
  • Advanced degree in the area of statistics, communication theory, or signal processing.
  • Experience working with Linux, and development on a Linux platform.
  • Hands-on experience implementing solutions in MATLAB.
  • Experience with purely functional programming.
  • Current and active SSBI.


Required for consideration as an Engineering Specialist
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience since obtaining a bachelor's degree.
  • Advanced degree in the area of statistics, communication theory, or signal processing.
  • Experience with tracking and fusion of data from PNT or electro-optical sensors.
  • Strength in one or more of the following programming languages: Python, MATLAB, and OCaml within Unix/Linux programming environments.
