Responsibilities

Aerospace is currently accepting applications for a Project Engineer (Propulsion) position supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures Directorate. The selected candidate will work with a combined team of government, private contractor, FFRDC/UARC, and SETA personnel performing programmatic, launch vehicle, and payload propulsion engineering design and development, system production, and fielding of target missiles used to exercise the Ballistic Missile Defense System. Frequent interaction with other MDA Directorate personnel, contractors, subcontractors, and vendor personnel is expected.

This position can be filled as a Level 2: Propulsion Project Engineer or as a Level 3: Sr. Propulsion Project Engineer.

Key Functions

  • Directly work with government programs to identify design, production, test, and fielding issues that Aerospace can assist in identifying risk and developing feasible and timely mitigation efforts.
  • Coordinate internal Aerospace and external agency subject matter experts to provide technical advisory services to the MDA Targets and Countermeasures Directorate.
  • Coordinate the development, approval, and delivery of Aerospace technical reviews and reports associated with tasks assigned by MDA.
  • Coordinate and provide robust systems engineering and mission assurance support throughout target system life cycle.
  • Conduct technical analysis and review of new target system design, development, test, production, fielding, and post flight data.
  • Conduct independent reviews of target systems qualification testing protocols, technical reports, technical briefings, analysis reports, and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate and provide the necessary subject matter expertise required to participate in engineering, manufacturing, test, anomaly, and failure review boards to assist the government to develop the most robust yet feasible technical solutions within programmatic plans.
  • Conduct and coordinate assessments of ballistic missile target system propulsion and associated hardware designs, integration, development/acceptance/qualification testing, support equipment, aging surveillance, and service life extension testing.
  • Develop and conduct launch vehicle and payload propulsion analyses of alternatives, trade studies, test plans, and margin analyses.
  • Participate in ballistic missile target system major milestone readiness assessments (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.).


Qualifications

Required Qualifications for Level 2: Propulsion Project Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an appropriate engineering, physics, mathematics, or equivalent technical disciplines
  • 8 or more years of engineering / scientific experience that includes experience in missile propulsion engineering
  • Experience supporting Failure Review Boards, providing risk assessment developing feasible mitigations
  • Active SECRET security clearance or higher
  • Experience coordinating and leading multidiscipline technical teams
  • Experience speaking and presenting technical material to engineers and leaders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Occasional travel is required


Required Qualifications for Level 3: Sr. Propulsion Project Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an appropriate engineering, physics, mathematics, or equivalent technical disciplines
  • 12 or more years of engineering / scientific experience that includes experience in missile propulsion engineering
  • Experience supporting Failure Review Boards, providing risk assessment developing feasible mitigations
  • Active SECRET security clearance or higher
  • Experience coordinating and leading multidiscipline technical teams
  • Experience speaking and presenting technical material to engineers and leaders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Occasional travel is required


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, or related technical field
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed environment, tasking matrixed engineers and scientists to complete program tasks
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Missile Defense Agency and Ballistic Missile Defense System development and testing
  • Knowledge and usability of Aerospace ETG matrix organization
