The Systems and Operations Assurance Department is the source of expertise for Operations and Facilities Engineering providing an array of technical capabilities that support our customers in assuring the availability, readiness, and success of ground assets and services required to meet the needs of the space enterprise. We have a current need for motivated architects/project managers to join our high-performing team in solving some of today's hardest problems and help evolve our capabilities in meeting the technical challenges of tomorrow. This position requires an innovative but decisive individual who works effectively in a highly collaborative, team-based environment and can set goals/expectations and effectively execute. We are looking for candidates experienced with architectural programming, requirements development, project controls, all phases of project design and construction, operations &maintenance/sustainment, and leading multidisciplinary project teams.

Key Functions:

  • Be self-motivating and able to work without appreciable direction from management with overall responsibility for project engineer and project administrator duties directly relating to each project
  • Serve as project leader and coordinator of a team of technical contributors, identifying issues, prioritizing tasks, facilitating communications and acting as a spokesperson for the working group
  • Provide technical expertise in identifying innovative technologies and operational enhancements to improve facility design, safety, resiliency/reliability, and cost-efficiency
  • Develop and implement advanced analytical techniques to evaluate facility systems and optimize overall systems design
  • Employ a rigorous and methodical approach to the problem-solving and identifying root cause
  • Deliver independent, data-driven technical recommendations to management and customers through effective verbal and written communication
  • Develop/evaluate design criteria, conceptual design packages, support construction, and commissioning operations; develop test plans, and test procedures
  • Develop project scopes of work and design documentation, budgets, project estimates and planning/scheduling documentation to support the facility procurement process
  • Act as a mentor to team members, providing orientation, technical guidance, and development insight
  • Travel to customer and/or government facilities while representing the company and department in a professional manner

This position is available as an Engineering Specialist or Project Leader


Required for Engineering Specialist

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Architecture, Bachelor of Architecture (BARCH), Project/Construction Management, or related engineering field from an accredited school
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in facility design and operation, preferably in an Architect-Engineer (A&E) firm
  • Knowledge of program management principles and demonstrated project management experience
  • Experience with the programming, design, construction and operation and maintenance of large multi-site and campus type facilities
  • Knowledge of current commercial building codes and regulations (e.g., IBC, NFPA, etc.)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or analogous computer-aided drafting programs
  • Ability to work independently and on teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with developing project requirements and Statements of Work (SOWs)
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project, and Visio
  • Organized with proficient time management skills and the ability to meet sensitive timelines
  • Self-starter and planner, able to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to travel (Domestic/International)
  • Current TS/SCI clearance

Additional Requirements for Project Leader

  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Must have demonstrated experience with the programming, design, construction and operation and maintenance of large multi-site and campus type facilities
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects concurrently and working in a matrix environment
  • Demonstrated experience developing facility requirements and executing cost and schedule estimates in conjunction with sub-contract partners and suppliers
  • Direct experience in supporting facility operations and Construction Project Management
  • Experience leading/mentoring junior staff

  • Master's degree in architecture or related engineering field
  • Experience with high-density data center design and operations
  • Experience with launch base infrastructure and facilities
  • Experience with cleanroom facilities engineering
  • Familiar with facility/infrastructure control and supervisory systems (e.g., SCADA, DCS)
  • Knowledge of defense industry procurement practices
  • Working knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) documents
  • LEED Certification
