Responsibilities

As an optical communications engineer, you will participate in the definition, design, development, and evaluation of advanced optical communication (lasercom) systems. Your systems engineering, modeling and simulation, and/or hardware efforts will impact cutting-edge space and ground lasercom systems.

This position can be filled as an Aerospace Senior Member of Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist

Key Functions
  • Perform analysis, modeling and/or hardware testbed development related to optical communications.
  • Assist in the definition and implementation of research projects.
  • Interface with Aerospace internal and external customers, and external contractors.
  • Document work products in technical reports and/or briefings to customers and colleagues.
  • Perform work as an individual or as part of a team, under the guidance and leadership of experienced staff.


Qualifications

Required
  • Degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience since obtaining a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with fiber/commercial telecom or free space optical comm.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


Preferred
  • Current and active Secret or Top Secret government clearance.


Required for Consideration as an Engineering Specialist
  • Master's or PhD in electrical engineering or related field from an accredited university.
  • 8+ years of experience since obtaining a bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasking with minimal supervision.
  • Aptitude for leadership and ability to mentor more junior engineers.
  • Experience with fiber/commercial telecom or free space optical comm.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


Preferred for Engineering Specialists
  • Current and active Secret or Top Secret government clearance.
  • RF communication and optical communication experience.
  • Experience with military communication systems.
