Responsibilities

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with CAD, CAE, design, modeling, and analysis skills. This position is located in El Segundo, CA with the Engineering Applications Department (EAD). EAD develops a wide variety of software applications and performs analyses for engineering needs to support civil, commercial, and national security space systems. Our engineers work with customers seeking solutions for conceptual design, prototyping, modeling, simulation, analysis, and additive manufacturing of space systems and space system components. We work with organizations and provide them the tools and models to perform their work in computational fluid dynamics, structural analysis, thermal analysis, rendezvous and proximity operations.

Key Functions:

  • Provide technical lead support of CAE modeling for space vehicle systems, analysis, data visualization applications, rapid prototyping and 3D modeling and printing.
  • Work with customers to develop Computer Aided Design (CAD)/CAE models for complex analysis including FEA, CFD, structural and thermal analysis.
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue opportunities for new business and research.
  • Preparation and presentation of technical reports, briefings, and analyses.


This position can be filled as a CAE Mechanical Engineer or Sr. CAE Mechanical Engineer.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for CAE Mechanical Engineer
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Engineering or related field
  • 2 or more years of professional CAD experience with SolidWorks and/or Siemens NX
  • Experience modeling from 2D sketches, drawings or text specifications
  • Experience with mechanical development, prototyping, and full model assembly
  • Experience in preparing models for FEA / CFD analysis
  • 2 or more years of experience with SLA, FDM and Polyjet 3D printers for Rapid Prototyping
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including preparation of slide presentations
  • Demonstrated learning agility and initiative
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


Required Qualifications for Sr. CAE Mechanical Engineer
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Engineering or related field
  • 5 or more years of professional CAD experience with SolidWorks and/or Siemens NX
  • 5 or more years of experience with SLA, FDM and Polyjet 3D printers for Rapid Prototyping
  • Experience modeling from 2D sketches, drawings or text specifications
  • Experience with mechanical development, prototyping, and full model assembly
  • Experience in preparing models for FEA / CFD analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

Preferred
  • Additional 3D CAD experience in Siemens NX and ANSYS Spaceclaim
  • Experience with design and/or analysis of space systems, aircraft, or UAVs.
  • Working knowledge and use of ASME Y14.5-1994 (Dimensioning and Tolerancing) applications and fundamentals.
  • Ability to work in Windows, Mac and Linux platforms
