Responsibilities

Information Security is a segment of the Special Programs Security Department in El Segundo. This department ensures that approved procedures are in place for: The implementation and accreditation of new systems, Maintaining the accreditation of current systems, clearing, purging, declassifying and releasing system memory, media and output, develops, maintains and updates auditing procedures for all classified systems,coordinates Information System (IS) security inspections, tests and reviews,maintains procedures for responding to security incidents, and for investigating and reporting seucirty violations and incidents as appropriate, reviews and maintains procedures for authoring the use of software, hardware and firmware in the secure area, assists with the evaluation and testing of new software and operating systems intended for installation within the secure areas, Authorized to receive or release equipment from the SCIF areas

The Information Assurance Specialist will ensure protection of intellectual property, both classified and unclassified belonging or charged to the corporation at all locations. Protects lives and property of employees and visitors against criminal activities, disasters or emergencies.

Key Functions

  • Provide technical assessment and assistance to the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) and Information System Owners (ISO)
  • Perform weekly reviews and audits of assigned Information Systems (IS) as directed
  • Brief system users on access requirements, responsibilities, and processes
  • Run Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) compliance and hardening tools and report results to the ISSM
  • Have a thorough understanding of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and provide justification of the technical need when requested
  • Conduct evaluation and analysis of planned or implemented IS software and hardware requirements
  • Assist in developing procedures to ensure the secure operation of organization managed IS
  • Create and maintain System Security Plan (SSP) and related documentation to gain an Authorization to Operate
  • Have a good understanding of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), Defense Security Service Assessment and Authorization Process Manual (DAAPM) and Risk Management Framework process
  • Understand how to apply technical requirements as detailed in the DAAPM or other directive/guidance documents
  • Coordinate and perform IS security inspections, tests, and reviews as detailed in organization processes and procedures
  • Communicate regularly with customers to obtain status of requests and facilitate completion of requests
  • Respond to IS incidents by interviewing personnel, investigating activities, coordinating actions and developing initial and final reports
  • Knowledge of techniques to perform clearing, purging, declassifying, and releasing of system memory, media, and output
  • Translate complex customer requirements into necessary technical and security solutions


Qualifications

Required for Information Assurance Specialist III
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Maintain an Information Technology (IT) certification commensurate with ISSO duties (e.g., Security+, Network +, Certification and Accreditation Professional, etc.)
  • 6 or more years' experience with the implementation and sustainment of cybersecurity best practices, standards, requirements, processes and methodologies
  • Knowledge and technical application of the Risk Management Framework process as it applies to assessment and authorization of classified information systems
  • Familiarity with and experience implementing the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) and associated Department of Defense instructions, guides and standards
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum Top Secret security clearance and SCI access

  • Bachelor's Degree
