Responsibilities

The Launch Systems Division is seeking a well-qualified individual with technical expertise, demonstrated leadership, and exceptional communication capabilities to support the Launch Enterprise Directorate (LE), Space and Missile Center (SMC). The Flight Operations Leader will provide engineering support and technical leadership related to launch vehicle flight operations for the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program. Responsibilities will include leading Aerospace internal efforts and building effective working relationships with the Air Force team and contractor counterparts in a dynamic environment with new launch providers and potentially higher launch rates.

This position can be filled as a Level 2: Flight Operations Leader OR as a Level 3: Sr. Flight Operations Leader.

Key Functions

  • Manage and lead all flight operations analyses and assessments for the EELV program to include telemetry coverage and link margin, radio frequency power impingement, launch collision avoidance, orbital safety, and orbital debris mitigation
  • Support of Government and Aerospace non-recurring design validation and independent launch readiness verification processes for all EELV launch systems
  • Coordinate and lead Aerospace support to the SMC/LE orbital safety and debris mitigation compliance processes
  • Coordinate and lead Aerospace launch collision avoidance analyses for EELV launches
  • Coordinate and lead Aerospace support to the Government radio frequency power impingement mitigation process
  • Manage Aerospace Engineering & Technology Group (ETG) technical studies related to flight operations
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with Air Force and Aerospace program office personnel and contractor counterparts
  • Prepare reports, briefings, and documents as needed in support of program activities and Aerospace processes
  • Support and present data at Aerospace Readiness Reviews and Customer Reviews
  • Provide on-console support at the El Segundo STARS facility for government EELV launches
  • Work with management to develop annual budgets


Qualifications

Required Qualifications for Level 2: Flight Operations Leader
  • B.S. degree or higher in engineering or science
  • 8 or more years of applicable experience
  • Experience in launch vehicle flight operations to include one more of the following: mission design, trajectory analyses, orbital safety policy, and/or orbital mechanics
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary technical team efforts
  • Ability to effectively summarize and present results to customers and Aerospace management in oral, written, and briefing formats
  • A current Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance, which is issued by the U.S. Government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Occasional travel


Required Qualifications for Level 3: Sr. Flight Operations Leader
  • B.S. degree or higher in engineering or science
  • 12 or more years of applicable experience with increasing responsibility
  • Experience in launch vehicle flight operations to include one more of the following: mission design, trajectory analyses, orbital safety policy, and/or orbital mechanics
  • Extensive experience in leading multi-disciplinary technical team efforts
  • Ability to effectively summarize and present results to customers and Aerospace management in oral, written, and briefing formats
  • A current Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance, which is issued by the U.S. Government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Occasional travel


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in engineering or science
  • Experience working with national security space customers (e.g. Air Force, NRO)
  • Knowledge of the Aerospace Corporation, its mission, and its organizational structure
