Responsibilities

Summary
The Aerospace Corporation's Advanced Research and Engineering subdivision supports tasks that include development and application of innovative space technologies, mission concept development, architectural planning, acquisition support, hardware delivery, and other aspects for small experimental spacecraft. The Project Leader - Experimental Small Satellite Systems Engineer will serve in the Technology Development Department (TDD) to provide direct, on-site technical support to the customer and manage Aerospace technical resources to assist in the development and transition of future spacecraft technologies from concept to test flight to transition to operational programs.

Key Functions

  • Provide innovative solutions to challenging problems that support our customer and customer's higher echelon leadership in developing and transitioning advanced spacecraft technologies for small spacecraft at materially improve performance, manage risk and reduce cost.
  • Oversee the development and transition of small satellite components that enhance national security needs.
  • Assist programs in applying Systems Engineering principles to the design, development, manufacturing, integration and testing, and operations of small satellites and experiments.
  • Work to apply the breadth of Aerospace Corporation analysis and system engineering needed to support of the customer.
  • Exceed customer performance expectations and ensure the technical excellence and quality of Aerospace products, service and demonstration.
  • Expand the Aerospace role in support to studies and analysis.
  • Provide technical support and guidance in accordance with the FFRDC manual.
  • Improve and broaden the skills of the Aerospace workforce and improve value to the customer.

This position is based in Chantilly, VA. Relocation is available.

Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in physics, electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering or an appropriate technical discipline from a recognized institution.
  • 8 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience.
  • Technical breadth and ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge in new technical areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse contractor team, to include FFRDC and SETA contractors.
  • Current TS/SCI clearance.
  • This position requires the ability to have and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


Preferred
  • Advanced degree in science, engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting state-of-the-art, advanced space technology research and development.
  • Experience with satellite component and satellite payload engineering.
  • Working knowledge of FFRDC role.
  • Utilization of matrix engineering and laboratory capabilities.
