Responsibilities

Contribute to the Mission Success of the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC)/Remote Sensing Systems Directorate (RS), working in a multi-functional Systems Engineering Department. Primary responsibilities include providing systems security engineering and cybersecurity expertise to the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) program. This position participates in Mission Protection activities, which encompasses Risk Management, Program Protection, System Security Engineering, and Communications Security (COMSEC).

Key Functions

  • Assist the RS Directorate by providing cybersecurity expertise in support of critical decision points and provide ground truth assessments of organizational security activities and posture
  • Participate in Enterprise Program Protection, Supply Chain Risk Management technical assessments and coordination with SMC and AFSPC stakeholders
  • Participate in risk management activities to ensure cybersecurity risks are evaluated and mitigations applied in accordance with security directives
  • Review of cybersecurity test procedures for requirements satisfaction, including participation in Test Readiness Review activities and witnessing of test events
  • Participate in cryptographic equipment development reviews and technical assessment of requirements satisfaction, design suitability to system operations, production readiness, key management planning suitability, and sustainment impacts
  • Evaluate and document system cybersecurity readiness in support of Aerospace Mission Assurance activities using Aerospace's integrated Mission Assurance Tool (iMAT)
  • Participate in Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO) planning and implementation


This position can be filled at a Level 2: Cybersecurity Systems Engineer or a Level 3: Sr. Cybersecurity Systems Engineer.

This position can be located in Aurora, CO or El Segundo, CA.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for Level 2: Cybersecurity Systems Engineer
  • 8 or more years of engineering, scientific, or space system program experience
  • At least 5 years of current cybersecurity/cyber operations experience
  • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies, including Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Experience working cross-functionally within teams, handling multiple tasks, and the ability to work closely with government customers, contractors, and other FFRDCs
  • A current TS/SCI clearance


Preferred Qualifications for Level 2
  • Degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, cyber engineering, or relevant discipline from an accredited institution
  • 10 years or more of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience
  • Experience in space-related systems such as SBIRS, GPS, MILSATCOM, AFSCN, or Space Launch
  • Experience working with program office personnel on Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) space systems, or NASA/NOAA space systems
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Certification or equivalent cyber certification


Required Qualifications for Level 3: Sr. Cybersecurity Systems Engineer
  • 12 or more years of engineering, scientific, or space system program experience
  • At least 5 years of current cybersecurity/cyber operations experience
  • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies, including Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Experience managing and leading teams/projects, handling multiple tasks, and working closely with government customers, contractors, and other FFRDCs
  • Current TS/SCI clearance


Preferred Qualifications for Level 3
  • Degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, cyber engineering or relevant discipline from an accredited institution
  • 15 years or more of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience
