Responsibilities
The Aerospace Corporation's Communication Architectures Department performs trade studies, analyses, and simulations to optimize the overall communications performance of terrestrial, satellite, launch vehicle, and ground based systems. We are seeking a Communications Engineer that can work in communication systems for both satellite and terrestrial applications. Our multidisciplinary staff defines the architectures to ensure cutting edge, state of the art high performance communications and coordinates the activities of related engineering specialties to ensure mission objectives are achieved. Key Functions
- Provide communication theory expertise including assessment of payloads, terminals and satellite enterprise systems
- Provide technical analysis and develop simulation tools to assess communication system performance and to developing the next generation of communication architectures requirements
- Assess the performance of satellite and ground systems, communications links, and wireless networks
- Survey and identify trends in spectrum usage and develop new communication architectures and concepts
- Present technical and project status briefings to management and customers
This position can be filled as an Aerospace Engineering Specialist or Senior Engineering Specialist
Qualifications
Required
- Degree from an accredited university in engineering or another related field
- Minimum of 8 years relevant experience post bachelor's degree
- Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance or ability to obtain this clearance
- Strong background in digital communications systems, analysis and trade studies, and communication systems engineering
- Experience in software tools (Matlab, Python, C/C++)
- Ability to present results effectively in briefings and technical reports
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to travel
Preferred
- Master's Degree or PhD in engineering or another related field
- Theoretical understanding of modern space and terrestrial communications
- Strength in software and tool development skills (Matlab, Python, C/C++)
- Experience with terrestrial communication (4G, 5G LTE)
- Able to work and learn new concepts that go beyond communications engineering
Requirements for Senior Engineering Specialist
Required
- Advanced degree in engineering or another related field
- Minimum of 12 years relevant experience post bachelor's degree
- Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance or ability to obtain this clearance
- Extensive background in digital communications systems, analysis and trade studies, and communication systems engineering
- Extensive knowledge of modern space and terrestrial communications
- Extensive knowledge of digital communications prototyping
- Strong analysis, problem solving and communications tool development skills both independently and in a team setting
- Strong presentation skills in briefings and technical reports
- Excellent organizational, as well as written and oral, communication skills
- Ability to travel
Preferred
- PhD in engineering or another related field
- Knowledge of various government programs that include SMC, NRO and commercial satellite system
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of digital communications prototyping and digital processing techniques
- Experience with terrestrial communication (4G, 5G LTE)
- Experience with protected communications
- Able to work and learn new concepts that go beyond communications engineering
