Responsibilities

The Aerospace Corporation's Communication Architectures Department performs trade studies, analyses, and simulations to optimize the overall communications performance of terrestrial, satellite, launch vehicle, and ground based systems. We are seeking a Communication Architectures Engineer that can work in both satellite and terrestrial communication systems. Our multidisciplinary staff defines the architectures to ensure cutting edge, state of the art high performance communications and coordinates the activities of related engineering specialties to ensure mission objectives are achieved. This position can be filled as an Aerospace Engineering Specialist or Senior Engineering Specialist

This position can be supported from the Aerospace location in El Segundo, CA Chantilly, VA or Colorado Springs, CO

Key Functions

  • Provide communication theory expertise including assessment of payloads, terminals and satellite enterprise systems
  • Provide systems engineering expertise for space and terrestrial communication architectures
  • Provide technical analysis and develop simulation tools to assess communication system performance and to develop the next generation of communication architectures requirements
  • Assess the performance of satellite and ground systems, communications links, and wireless network protocols
  • Perform radio frequency interference analysis and modeling between communication systems to promote spectrum sharing and spectrum contention issues
  • Provide analyses and evaluations of national and international space policy activities
  • Survey and identify trends in spectrum usage and develop new communication architectures and concepts
  • Present technical and project status briefings to management and customers
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to more junior staff
  • Travel to customer facilities


Qualifications

Required.
  • Degree from an accredited university in engineering or another related field
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience
  • Active, or able to acquire, Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance (US citizenship required)
  • Project development experience and ability to lead small teams of engineers
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills when working independently or in a team setting
  • Ability to present results effectively in briefings and technical reports
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, as well as written and oral, communication skills
  • Able to work and learn new concepts that go beyond communications engineering


Preferred
  • Master's Degree or PhD in engineering or related field
  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance
  • Theoretical understanding in modern space and terrestrial communications
  • Strong software and tool development skills
  • Experience with terrestrial communications (4G, 5G LTE)
  • Experience with protected communications
  • Experience with spectrum management


Required for Consideration as a Senior Engineering Specialist
  • Degree from an accredited university in engineering or another related field
  • Minimum of 12 years relevant experience
  • Proven project development and technical leadership experience to lead small teams of engineers
  • Active, or able to acquire, Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance (US citizenship required)
  • Proven analysis, problem solving skills and tool development when working independently or in a team setting
  • Strong presentation skills when presenting briefings and delivering technical reports
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, as well as written and oral, communication skills
  • Theoretical understanding of modern space and terrestrial communications


Preferred for Senior Engineering Specialist
  • Master's Degree or PhD in engineering or related field
  • Experience in enterprise level satellite communications architectures design
  • Experience with spectrum management and policy work
  • New business development experience
  • Knowledge of various government programs that include SMC, NRO and commercial satellite systems
  • Experience with terrestrial communication (4G, 5G LTE)
  • Experience with protected communications
